West London Synagogue came to York for a tour - we visited Clifford’s Tower and lit a yahrtzeit candle, we walked the city walls and visited the site of the former orthodox synagogue that closed in the 1970s.

Great walk, Thursday Feb 29th with a ‘group of friends’ who came from London to visit Yorkshire. The spiral staircase is inside the Law Russell Building in Bradford’s Little Germany and the group photo is outside the Midland Hotel where everyone stayed.

see the historic homes of the nineteenth century Jewish Merchants and much more!

Ken Drabinsky came to Leeds from Calgary Canada on a roots trip. He tried his hand at tailoring before going on to the Polish Club to prepare him for the next stage of his journey to Poland. We had a great morning visiting Jewish sites past and present in Leeds.

Two great tours today - Diller fellows from Israel saw Jewish Leeds - thanks to Carole Adams and the Sinai for our visit and answering the groups many questions. Then to Bradford to meet Victor Edelstein’s great grand-daughter for a roots tour. We visited Merchants House where the family business was based, the Bradford Synagogue, the Wool Exchange and Oak Avenue where Victor lived.

We had a great walk in Bradford today, in the Footsteps of Jacob Unna, a founder of Bradford's Chamber of Commerce, a Worshipful Master of the Harmony Lodge and a key player in the life of Victorian Bradford. We managed over 10,000 steps in the walk, good for the heart and good for the soul. Our picture is of our walkers by Unna's plaque in the Bradford Synagogue.

The Worshipful Company of Woolmen - the City of London's oldest Livery Guild came to visit today. They saw industrial processes in action and visited the Cathedral, the Central Mosque and the Bradford Synagogue where this photo was taken. By all accounts they had a great day in the City.

Jennifer and her family came from Maryland on a Roots Tour. We visited Mill Hill in Leeds and Hodgson Fold in Bradford and had a great day exploring where her in West Yorkshire her family lived in the nineteenth century before emigrating to the USA. We also stopped off at the Leeds Corn Exchange.

Sue came from Ipswich today to trace the story of her great grandfather Siegmund Gottschalck who came from Hanover to Bradford in the 1860s. She is pictured outside the Bradford Club with her husband, where no doubt her great grandfather enjoyed the long lunches of Bradford's Victorian Business Elite!

Jacob Arnold Unna born Hamburg 1800 died Bradford 1881 was the grand old man of Bradford Jewry. He laid the foundation stone of the Bradford Synagogue in 1880, the plaque is shown, he lived at 2 Eldon Place and is buried at Scholemoor and was the Worshipful Master of the Harmony Lodge in Bradford- the photos are of his descendants visiting key family sites.
