A spotlight on desks... all our bedrooms have desks with ergonomic chairs with them, whilst we hope your break with us will be all 'play' if you do have to work then there is space to do that. If you just want to use the desk to get ready then they are all by windows to provide good lighting and lamps too if you need extra light and all have mirrors. Plus there is a hairdryer, straighteners and heat mat in every room with plugs nearby. We also have full length mirrors in every room if you prefer to stand to get ready.

We are pleased to be able to offer a limited number of one night stays, Sunday to Thursdays for the next two weeks and selected weeks in January subject to availability.

Just £240 a night for up to 6 people and no extra charges for pets. Treat yourself to a meal and drinks out with a place in town or find a babysitter and have a night away from the kids. It would also make a great gift for someone and we do gift cards.

Message us on Facebook or as an enquiry on our website and we will open up our calendar for you to book.

Here is a second article from Hugh all about the Roaches and Luds Church for anyone considering visiting... just 2 miles from the Townhouse to the Peaks...

The Roaches is a gritstone ridge that spans across 10 miles of the Staffordshire Moorlands, its name simply a development of the French word for rocks - “La Roches”. This is a very popular area for walking, climbing and mountain biking but aside from its undoubted natural beauty each individual ...

Three Shires Head. The point where Cheshire Staffordshire and Derbyshire all meet and just a very short drive from the House. We normally focus on the waterfalls but Hugh gives some fab information about the bridge here...

The old bridge at Three Shires Head, built around 1790 for the packhorse traders that worked across the Midlands. The bridge stood at the approximate point where the three counties of Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Cheshire used to meet, and this led to the place gaining a somewhat shady reputation in the past.

The area around Three Shires Head was a hotbed for coin forging through the 18th and 19th centuries, with the Fearns gang and Meg Lane gang being leading players. It is said that the forgers would carry out their deals on the bridge, with any attempt by the constables to raid proceedings stymied by the men simply dashing across to the county on the opposite side!

Not only that, but bare knuckle boxing fights were held on the bridge for the same reason, with scores being settled between feuding families and constables confounded by the three county intersection.

A rather alarming ghost has been reported several times over either on the bridge or on the lanes leading to it. When it becomes dark straggling hikers have encountered a man clad in a cloak and tricorn hat mounted on a galloping horse, charging right towards them. He often carries a lamp and disappears as he looms closer.

Today the Three Shires Head bridge is a beautiful spot to stop for a while while hiking the many trails that cross here, and looks better in the autumn and spring when the falls has more water behind it. When the weather is warm you could even have a dip in the icy Dane river if you're feeling brave enough!

A fantastic turnout for the Leek Christmas Light Switch on last night. Showcasing the best of Leek and the kids and I had a fab time... the Mulled Wine and Milkshakes from Flo's was a definite highlight. As we're the cocktails at Beyond The Pale, the Markets were lovely and the Kids spent all their pocket money at Baddeley Green Hedgehog Rescue Centre stall (our favourite local charity to support) and the lucky dip. We danced to the live music and the kids played in the Funhouse at the Fair. Leek does some great events...

We will remember them.

For the Fallen By Laurence Binyon

With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
England mourns for her dead across the sea.
Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,
Fallen in the cause of the free.

Solemn the drums thrill; Death august and royal
Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres,
There is music in the midst of desolation
And a glory that shines upon our tears.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England's foam.

But where our desires are and our hopes profound,
Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,
To the innermost heart of their own land they are known
As the stars are known to the Night;

As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain;
As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
To the end, to the end, they remain.
