Our 'Dickens at Christmas' walks are coming to an end for another year. I have been urging people to attend the Dickensian Christmas Carol Service at St Bartholomew the Great if at all possible. It took place last night, December 18th, and was a wonderful occasion. If you missed it here is a link - www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5KfMA-OItQ&t=8s
Have a very Merry Christmas and as Tiny Tim would say "God bless us, everyone!"

Trafalgar Square said ‘goodbye’ today to the sculpture of John Chilembwe and John Chorley.
Baptist ministers in early 20th century Malawi, John Chilembwe is taking part in an act of defiance - wearing his hat in the presence of a white man. Both have stood on the 4th Plinth in the square for the last two years. A new art work is due any day. Find out more on our Whitehall/Westminster walk.

“There is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good-humour.” So said Charles Dickens in A Christmas Carol. Join us on our Christmas walk as we explore the City of London and visit some of the places that inspired this most famous of stories and much of Dickens other work besides.

They don’t make drinking fountains like this any more! This particular example used to stand in Guildhall Yard next to St Lawrence Jewry. Moved to this location next to St Paul’s in 2010.

Is this the luckiest statue in London? In amongst the traffic at the southern end of Trafalgar Square, Charles I looks down Whitehall. During the Civil War, Parliament ordered it to be taken down and melted. A metalsmith, John Rivett was given the task, but instead of melting it down he buried it in his garden. He then revealed the statue in 1660 when Charles II came to the throne where it was placed in its current position.

Team bonding walking tour around Belgravia
Feb 2024 • Business
Andrew took our group of 12 on a corporate walking tour around Belgravia. It was a fantastic tour, Andrew was a very engaging guide, was able to tailor the tour to our needs and answered everyone's questions. I would recommend as an excellent team activity for any corporate meetings.

We frequently mention the importance of tea in the economy of London in our walks. One of the most important suppliers was the Mazawattee Tea Co. Their warehouse was destroyed in the Blitz and this plaque is a reminder. The company used zebra to deliver their tea - a very striking marketing technique!

Tucked away in a corner of Trafalgar Square you can easily miss this tiny structure. Built in the 1920's, with a direct line to Scotland Yard and a flashing orange light on the top to attract nearby police officers, this was one way for the police to keep an eye on 'goings on' in the square.
