4 Aurora Raising funds for research into brain tumours www.4aurora.org Aurora was such a wonderful, too-good-to-be-true child and we feel her loss so deeply everyday.

4 Aurora was set up by Margherita and Francesco Provenzano in memory of their beautiful daughter Aurora, who sadly lost her courageous fight against a brain tumour in August 2009 at just 10 years old. With the help of Brain Tumour Research UK, we have been able to set up this organisation to help raise much needed funds for vital research into brain tumours as brain tumours only receive less than

1% of the national spend in the UK. We hope by helping raise funds, we can help stop another family having to deal with the hell we have been and are still going through. If you feel that you would like to help or support 4 Aurora in anyway, please visit us on www.4aurora.org

Even the smallest of donations could add up to a big difference.

We would like to thank everyone who helped out and attended the Coffee Afternoon on the 5th June 2015. We raised an amazing £170.28. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Clarins Beauty Specialist Kim Frost who donated her time, giving makeovers, and lots of lovely prizes for the raffle. We are truly grateful.

Most of all, we would like to take this opportunity to thank Michelle Weirich who, without her dedication and commitment, this event would never have been as successful. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

We feel so very honoured that Methodist Women In Britain South East chose 4 Aurora as their charity, and that they have all been so tireless in their fund raising activities.

We were able to meet some of the wonderful people on 16th November who helped raise the huge sum of £15,788.02. We were also provided with a beautiful luncheon and would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who was involved in the organisation of this at Birchington Methodist Church.

We appreciate their willingness to get involved with 4 Aurora, and the money raised will go to fund much needed research into brain tumours at the research centres.

It is only through giving directly to brain tumour charities, funding laboratory-based research, that all types of brain tumours will be cured.

We are well aware that brain tumour charities are woefully underfunded even though brain tumours kill more children than Leukaemia or any other cancer.

So thank you again to every individual that supported this massive fund raising drive. We feel so completely grateful for everything this wonderful group of people have done.

We would also like to thank Marjory and her husband Neil for sending us the wonderful photos of the presentation of the cheque.

We welcome the news of from researchers in Germany who have announced plans to move to clinical trials in 2015 to test what the media has described as ‘a vaccine to prevent brain cancer’.
http://www.thehealthsite.com/news/coming-soon-a-vaccine-to-prevent-brain-cancer/
The researchers’ have identified a gene mutation IDH1 that results in glioma or brain cancer and have announced plans for a vaccine to target this mutation.
We consulted with our researchers in the UK, we felt it important to clarify that
a) IDH1 mutations do not occur in all brain tumours
b) IDH1 mutations do not occur in all component brain tumour cells
Whilst the German tests on animals showed positive responses, the human brain is a vastly more complex theatre of biochemistry; if an immune response was triggered by such a vaccine in humans, would this be effective/strong enough to fight heterogeneous populations of tumour cells in human brain tumours?
We will be monitoring the trial updates with interest, but we conclude that researchers are still far away from being able to signpost the development of a viable vaccine to treat brain tumours.
What is clear above all, however, is the chronic lack of funding for research in this country blocking the development of novel treatments for brain tumours. There is a vast amount for researchers to do in being able to successfully treat this devastating disease.

Seven days in to Brazil 2014, and there’s been 17 matches, 43 goals, millions of tweets and one unfortunate goal celebration...

Why don’t we create some great World Cup statistics of our own?

By hosting a ! party, you could help raise vital funds of brain tumour research whilst enjoying the footie. There are so many great resources to download on our website; why not organise a ‘first goal’ sweepstakes or gather some friends for a World Cup or Brazil quiz?

Find them all here: www.myhostforhope.org

If it’s too short notice to organise a get-together then you can make a quick and easy donation via our Text Donate number: Text 'RSCH £5' to 70070 to donate £5.

Finally, we would love to reach 7,000 likes on Facebook by the end of the World Cup; that’s 260 in 26 days! Just 10 new likes per day. However we won’t get there without your help, so please, please get sharing with your friends, followers and other online contacts.

England may not win the tournament but we know that with the help of everyone on Team Brain Tumour Research, we can move ever

Today we bring the extremely significant and exciting news that scientists are preparing to cross neuroscience's final frontier, the blood-brain barrier (BBB), for the first time.

The BBB protects the brain from toxins in the bloodstream but this is also why brain cancer treatments often aren't effective- they just can't reach where they need to be.

"Tiny bubbles will open the blood-brain barrier to sneak drugs into tumours – and we might treat Alzheimer's the same way."

This article explains the forthcoming trials and what success could mean for future brain tumour patients.
