We've finally made it to the top of Penhill, the most prominent hill in lower Wensleydale and the first thing we see at the distance when driving to Middleham after leaving the motorway. I'm glad that on this occasion we managed (just!) to stay dry.

We're making the most of our one week stay at the #🍐🌳🏠.
Yesterday, we went on a very pretty circular walk from Burnsall along the river Wharfe to the limestone gorge of Troller's Gill. And what a treat it was!

According to legend, the gorge is home to the mythical monstrous black dog Barghest who can turn one to stone with a look. Luckily, we walked along the gorge unscathed. Phew!

West Burton Waterfall. Must come back for a dip, John said. Not me! 🥶😂

This gorgeous place is only a few steps away from the village green and it's an idyllic place for a peaceful moment. It was part of a circular walk we did on the weekend from the picturesque village of West Burton to Aysgarth Falls.

What a fabulous day!

What are your plans for today?
We're just about to set off for a nice long walk and make the most of the fabulous weather we're having at the moment. It's a shame we're not in Yorkshire this weekend, so the Costwolds will have to do 😁. And if I'm lucky, we'll have time to go to my favourite garden centre and have a mooch around.

I'm working today, in bed with the laptop on my lap (please don't judge me 🥺) preparing for a meeting tomorrow. But I keep getting distracted looking at pictures we took during last weekend's walk around Semer Water.

C'mon Guida, stay focused, get it done and then relax. Easier said than done....

A recent little purchase from ebay of a countryscape scene painting and a bouquet of corn husk flowers (yes, they're a thing!) made by my very talented Mum. Aren't they pretty? Close ups in stories 😍.

Guess who's back in the Dales. We are! And it was about time we enjoyed a nice walk. This time we drove to Bainbridge and walked along the river Bain (the shortest named river in England, according to Wikipedia) towards Semer Water. Another fun fact; the name Semer Water is a pleonastic name (yes, Wikipedia again) derived from the old english words sea 'lake', mere 'lake' and water. So, definitely wet! We then returned back to Bainbridge via the Roman road, and back home to a roaring fire. Nice!

Wow! We've done this walk many times before. The meditative and spiritual connection to nature we get walking those paths and hills, that's what makes the Yorkshire Dales so special. We're SO lucky to have this beautiful landscape on our doorstep and to be able to fully enjoy it.

We've had wonderful entries in our visitors' book, and I'm planning to share them with you over stories in the next few days - that's if I manage to find some time between all the lovely stuff we're doing with my family in Lisbon 😍 as we've decided to brave it and travel to Portugal after not seeing my family since summer 2019, because of you know what...
