2nd May 2025 - 09:30am - a circular walk with Iolo around Llyn Idwal
In 1954 Cwm Idwal National Nature Reserve became Wales first. The exclusion of grazers has helped natural regeneration giving an insight to what the uplands could/should look like.
Iolo will be joined by myself and geologist Dewi, a former park warden and current employee of the National Trust to give insight to the formation of Eryri, the effect of violent volcanic activity, eons of folding and mountains of ice over the last 450 million years. This geology is extremely significant which inspired both Darwin and Attenborough
We’ll walk slowly, only around 6km, over 6 hours as we study upland specialists such as montane flowers, woodland indicators, migrant birds and how discuss how species have adapted to this harsh environment.
Previous trips have included raven, wheatear, ring ouzel, stonechat, kestrel, meadow pipit, cuckoo, goosander, ferel goat, newt, trout, dipper, purple saxifrage, big asphodel, sundew, butterwort on the hill and wood warbler and a range of woodland birds on return to the cars.
Both Dewi and Iolo are Welsh speaking, you can expect some welsh names, welsh culture, welsh sayings, history, anecdotes, and lots of humour!
Alternative date 4th July
These can be paired with RSPB South Stack - also with Iolo, Dewi and myself on 1st May or 3rd July. Where we have seen chough, peregrine, puffin, gillemot, rock pipit, fulmar, gannet, razorbill, raven, adder, lizard and some unique flowers!

Short 30 second video of last nights autumn Harvest SUPERMOON walk. A friendly and keen group did around 8 miles from Tetford. We saw 🦡 🦇 🐭 🦌 too!
I hope you enjoy my video.
You may know I organise walks with Iolo Williams watching wildlife. The walks are 6 hours of slow paced walking - mainly chatting. We’re joined by a geologist from the national trust so we’ve got birds, flora, fauna, history, environment, Welsh culture, rocks and reptiles all covered.
We organised 2 in 2023, 4 in 2024 which sold out but we still have 2025 places, July proving popular but plenty of space in May
1st May South Stack
2nd May Cwm Idwal
3rd July South Stack
4th July Cwm Idwal
We’ve already had people buying these as Christmas presents. We’re looking for deposits at this stage. Come to North Wales and meet Iolo, Dewi and myself!
Events are on my page under “more” then “events”.
