Richard Fish Outdoor Adventures

Richard Fish Outdoor Adventures Richard Fish Outdoor Adventures is a small business offering a range of short events based on learning about the outdoors, in the outdoors!

An ethical and inclusive small company that predominantly runs hill walking adventures.

 walks for beginners
 night hikes
 navigation courses
 help organise charity challenges
 wild camping weekends
 challenge hikes
 sunrise walks
 scrambling routes

We are based in Lincolnshire with navigation courses, day walks and night hikes all over the Lincolnshire Wolds and more recently Nottingha

mshire. The organise events all over the U.K. on the popular mountain areas and less well known adventures. We like to add value by enthusing about natural history and bring the walk to life. People who join our events maybe have hiked before but wish to learn to map read, want the hassle taken out of organising, want to join a group, want reassurance on a scramble eg on Tryfan/ Crib Goch or Helvellyn. Or they may be new to hill walking and want the reassurance of a Leader particularly at night. You can expect a warm welcome, an inclusive event, experienced and passionate staff who are fully insured and qualified.

Look out for PURPLE SAXIFRAGE
As early as snowdrops and primroses in the lowlands the Purple Saxifrage is the harbinger of spring in the uplands. As we know flora and fauna have to adapt to survive in our uplands. This Arctic alpine grows in our base rich rocks and can cope with extremely low temperatures (it’s been tested down to -196 degs Celsius). It’s so desperate to flower first the flowers start to form the previous year and can even flower in snow and partial ice. It’s survives in sheltered nooks and crannies or where exposed forms mats. As it grows where pollinators are scarce, the first strategy is to flower before anything else and the back up is self pollination!

This picture was taken in Cwm Idwal and we sometimes catch the end of these on the Iolo Williams trip in May. To find out about a wide range of montane and alpine specialists you can join Mike Raine from Nature of Snowdonia who is leading an Arctic Alpine day for us on 5th June!

Lincolnshire radio legend John Marshall has a new podcast LincsPod… on all the usual podcast providers but here’s a YouTube link as I feature in episode 7. I recommend the whole podcast for Lincolnshire folk or just watch between 7:30 and 13:45 for yours truly!

I really like the edit, pity it included me seeing a heron and a swan and not the goldcrest or goosander facts 😂 - Enjoy!

Day 2 of our Map Reading weekend, was really nice to follow a new route planned by participant Gaz.
Loads of navigation discussions from a knowledgeable group.

Lots of other discussions about kit, weather, environment too. We also saw mink trap, muntjac, pheasants, signal crayfish, grey squirrel so some discussions about impact of some non native species.
