 walks for beginners
 night hikes
 navigation courses
 help organise charity challenges
 wild camping weekends
 challenge hikes
 sunrise walks
 scrambling routes

We are based in Lincolnshire with navigation courses, day walks and night hikes all over the Lincolnshire Wolds and more recently Nottingha

mshire. The organise events all over the U.K. on the popular mountain areas and less well known adventures. We like to add value by enthusing about natural history and bring the walk to life. People who join our events maybe have hiked before but wish to learn to map read, want the hassle taken out of organising, want to join a group, want reassurance on a scramble eg on Tryfan/ Crib Goch or Helvellyn. Or they may be new to hill walking and want the reassurance of a Leader particularly at night. You can expect a warm welcome, an inclusive event, experienced and passionate staff who are fully insured and qualified.

We’re privileged to be featured in the Lindum Colonia community magazine which is being delivered to 14,000 Lincoln households as we speak. We think it’s going to a silmilar number for Townsland magazine soon too!

Last year we were on BBC Look North and earlier this year we featured in Lincolnshire Life magazine.

Huge thanks to Darren Parkinson of Boot Routes and Kenny Colwill of Natural Image Photography for the featured photos.

Working for yourself means most of the time you work by yourself. Sometimes we need others to lead the event, other times like larger events we need lots of staff. I’m very grateful to the wider team…

𝙍𝙤𝙗𝙞𝙣 (𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙘𝙪𝙨 𝙧𝙚𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙪𝙡𝙖)
The Robin was voted official bird of the U.K. in 2015 with 34% of the vote. The very popular Robin can be found singing all year round defending its territory, of which there are around 6.7million. The U.K.s affection is long lived with many references in literature, in stories and in rhymes. The name redbreast is thought to be from the Anglo-Saxon “ruddoc”. They may appear more orange than red but oranges were first imported in 1300 and orange didn’t become a colour until 1500, centuries after birds were named so its - Robin redbreast. Males and females look similar.
Early postmen wore red tunics and were nicknamed ‘robins’ which may explain it’s association with Christmas cards and post boxes.

Robins are widespread, a gardener’s companion as it hopes you reveal a few worms. It can appear cheery and interested, in-fact they’re wary and feisty. For most of the year males and female defend different territories and if you regularly see a Robin, it’s probably the same one. In the spring, the female moves into his territory to breed where she builds a nest of hair, moss and leaves in potentially unusual places. She lays 4-6 blue eggs which hatch in 2 weeks and grow quickly. They eat seeds, fruit, insect and invertebrates. Robins thrive in gardens, hedgerows, scrub, woodland edges and parks. The risks to the Robin is birds of prey, domestic cats and cold nights, where a Robin can lose 10% body fat in one day. Robins have been known to fight/ injure/ kill other robins to defend their territory and food source. On cold nights you can help by putting out a few meal worms. Many European cultures suggest Robin bought fire to the earth and scorched his chest, others suggest it was injured removing Christ’s thorny crown and is stained red with blood. Our affinity with robins is deep rooted and it’s bound to continue.

𝐇𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝟏𝟒 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐂𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫
New for 2025 - our first 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐤!
Led by Ally this is a varied 14mile/22km walk from historic Horncastle taking in some of the Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape. The date is 16th March and could take about 7 hours.

Ally is a Mountain Leader and Medical professional with a special interest in Mountain Medicine. She is an outdoor enthusiast with a developing passion for nature.

Horncastle is a Roman town and sits at the head of 2 rivers - the Bain and Waring. We can expect varied countryside and great views on the higher ground of the Wolds - both Lincoln Cathedral and Boston Stump being visible on a clear day. There’s likely to be some early spring flowers and interesting wildlife.

The cost is £30pp
