 walks for beginners
 night hikes
 navigation courses
 help organise charity challenges
 wild camping weekends
 challenge hikes
 sunrise walks
 scrambling routes

We are based in Lincolnshire with navigation courses, day walks and night hikes all over the Lincolnshire Wolds and more recently Nottingha

mshire. The organise events all over the U.K. on the popular mountain areas and less well known adventures. We like to add value by enthusing about natural history and bring the walk to life. People who join our events maybe have hiked before but wish to learn to map read, want the hassle taken out of organising, want to join a group, want reassurance on a scramble eg on Tryfan/ Crib Goch or Helvellyn. Or they may be new to hill walking and want the reassurance of a Leader particularly at night. You can expect a warm welcome, an inclusive event, experienced and passionate staff who are fully insured and qualified.

𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐬 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞
Saturday 31st May 2025
This linear walk will travel south down the Viking Way taking in some of the nicest scenery in Lincolnshire. You can choose a distance to suit you!

🥾 18km (12 miles) Nettleton to Ludford or
🥾🥾37km (23 miles) Nettleton to Scamblesby

The route being linear enables longer on the historic Viking Way and to see more of the Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape - the longer walk covering most of the length of the Wolds.

The event will be supported by Hill Holt Wood and we will have a minibus to provide support and a lift back to the beginning.

The walk will be led by a qualified Mountain Leader, be fully insured and first aid trained.

The cost is £29 for the shorter walk and £38 for the longer walk. The price includes transport from the finish to the start.

The shorter walk pace will be slightly more lesuirely and take around 6 hours and the longer walk could take approximately 10 hours.

We’re planning a 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐬 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐡𝐢𝐤𝐞 next spring. A linear day walk along the best sections of the Viking Way!

The question is how long would you want the walk to be?
10 miles, 15 miles, 20 miles, 25 miles 30 miles, 30+ miles

We’d love to hear so we can make a challenge that suits the most people! The event will have vehicle support to get you back to the beginning.

Photo below taken of me by Kèññy Cølwïll of Natural Image Photography. It’s taken on the Viking Way - anyone know where it’s taken?

𝐅𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒
This seems like a post you do at new year but I’ve been asked 3 times in the last fortnight what my favourite bird sighting this year is…. From friends noticing I’ve started counting birds. I’ve decided to include other nature too!

Top 3 birds in no particular order
🦅 white-tailed eagle on Skye - genuinely made me emotional
🦅bittern - my first bittern back in spring, I got up at 4am and watch him eating frogs
🦅peregrine and chough with Iolo - sounds weird because chough are very scarce but we watched a peregrine the fastest animal in the world dive for juvenile chough at South Stack. 2 amazing birds, amazing encounter

Notable additions: spoonbills and avocets with mum, breeding cranes in Lincolnshire, woodlarks and tree pipits in Sherwood, black guillemot a new favourite, ospreys gathering at Loch Leven

About 20 firsts this year too!

Top 3 nature spots
🦦 otters at dawn on Skye
🦫 not a sighting but visiting Wild Wrendale and being so close to Beaver in Lincolnshire
🌱 Snowdon Lily and incredibly rare Arctic alpines with Mike Raine

Reminder I’m reducing wildlife posts here unless they are upland specialists or on our adventures and increasing wildlife of lowlands on my new page

Photos mine except for the gorgeous Chough - Boot Routes

Thank you to everyone of you…

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Wales Bank Holiday - Cymru

1st May - RSPB South Stack - Anglesey - Wildlife with Iolo Williams - welsh Naturalist
2nd May - Cwm Idwal - Eryri - Wildlife of Uplands with Iolo Williams - welsh Naturalist
3rd May - History and Geology of Eryri with Dewi Davies - welsh Geologist
4th May - Climb Tryfan - North Ridge scramble
5th May - Climb Snowdon/ Yr Wyddfa for charity

Grouping these together makes it more environmentally conscious. People who want to do more than one event will travel less and hopefully stay and spend locally (including myself).

2nd May 2025 - 09:30am - a circular walk with Iolo around Llyn Idwal

In 1954 Cwm Idwal National Nature Reserve became Wales first. The exclusion of grazers has helped natural regeneration giving an insight to what the uplands could/should look like.

Iolo will be joined by myself and geologist Dewi, a former park warden and current employee of the National Trust to give insight to the formation of Eryri, the effect of violent volcanic activity, eons of folding and mountains of ice over the last 450 million years. This geology is extremely significant which inspired both Darwin and Attenborough

We’ll walk slowly, only around 6km, over 6 hours as we study upland specialists such as montane flowers, woodland indicators, migrant birds and how discuss how species have adapted to this harsh environment.

Previous trips have included raven, wheatear, ring ouzel, stonechat, kestrel, meadow pipit, cuckoo, goosander, ferel goat, newt, trout, dipper, purple saxifrage, big asphodel, sundew, butterwort on the hill and wood warbler and a range of woodland birds on return to the cars.
Both Dewi and Iolo are Welsh speaking, you can expect some welsh names, welsh culture, welsh sayings, history, anecdotes, and lots of humour!

Alternative date 4th July
These can be paired with RSPB South Stack - also with Iolo, Dewi and myself on 1st May or 3rd July. Where we have seen chough, peregrine, puffin, gillemot, rock pipit, fulmar, gannet, razorbill, raven, adder, lizard and some unique flowers!

𝐃𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲?
On Bank Holiday Monday - 5th May you can join us walking up Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon).
We do organise charity days for large groups but the idea of this day is people can join this existing walk, raising money for your own charity but be walking with likeminded people.
We’d like you to pay £39 per person upfront which will cover the guiding fees etc and then 100% of all money raised can go directly to your charity.
This is ideal for individuals and small groups.

Night hike last with Wragby Scouts in Willingham Woods. We’d previously visited in spring and discussed flowers, plants etc. Tonight we saw berries and fungi. Topics were wide ranging including a long chat about native be and invasive species. I hope the scouts enjoyed being out at night and having a deeper look at stuff they’d normally walk straight past!

GIFT VOUCHERS - Gɪᴠᴇ ᴛʜᴇ ɢɪꜰᴛ ᴏꜰ ᴀɴ ᴀᴅᴠᴇɴᴛᴜʀᴇ
I’ve just sold a voucher and thought I’d remind everyone we are able to offer vouchers. We can do it for a specific amount or for a specific experience so they don’t know what you spent e.g. voucher to climb

The discovery, made by a National Geographic team 100 years after the mountaineer vanished with George Mallory, could add new clues to one of the great unsolved adventure mysteries of all time.

Last night I was out with fellow members of Lincoln Mountaineering Club practising night navigation in Willingham Woods. The weather held off and it was great to be in the woods at night. Lots of skills refreshed and practised and lots of distraction by fungi.

This morning I ran a 1/2 day map reading course for North Lincolnshire Walking Festival. The workshop aimed at beginners and was attended by 5 very keen ladies. The forecast was pretty pants but it turned out to be a nice day on the banks of the Humber. Lots of learning and broad ranging chats.
