Out on the Moor today. Our grand daughter Eloise, who is staying with us presently, following completion of her GCSEs, is riding Mitzi, one of our two ponies. Bella was accompanying us on a lead rein. Eloise compiled the video and selected the music.

Mystery solved

The slate was pulled back today and revealed a tank of about 1m x 1m x 2.5m deep. Not nearly as exciting as we had hoped. There was some water in the bottom but it was not very full. We dipped a jam jar on some string to check the water quality, which was reasonably clear. Next job is to find how the tank fills and then think about how we can better utilise the facility.

Anyone like a mystery?

We've been aware of a hole in the ground covered with granite and vegetation since we moved to Cheesewring Farm. We were told it was a water tank but have never investigated before as there were always other priorities. Today, with drought conditions in mind we thought we would investgate. After clearing away we found a heavy slate cover which is over a void below. We can move it a little but it needs more planning and manpower before we raise it. Unfortunately thoughts of a tomb, a 60ft deep well or worse still a 1000ft mine shaft flash through the brain and changed the job to "We'll do that another day" Any ideas or suggestions could be appreciated!

Cornish hedge rebuild completed. Just turf to finish the job, but too dry to do at the moment. 6m long x 2m high x 1.2m wide. Thanks to Rhys and Rob for 5 days of hard work in the hot weather. Also Phil for assisting with the heart stone collection from our granite dump. Finally Caradon Tool Hire for the amazing 8t digger and demolition grab (should be called a construction grab in the way we used it - an amazing piece of kit)

Gone fishing..

When it's time for bed and the ducks are on the pond, just going round and round and you can't get them off the water - what do you do? Answer, use a fishing rod left as rubbish by guests. Recycle and reuse.

More hot weather to come, but at least the sheep on the farm should feel a bit cooler after their " short back and sides" this evening.
