First Christmas job of the year for me.
The guests definitely enjoyed the grab a grand game from crystal maze. I was pleasantly surprised with how busy I was 🤣

DID YOU KNOW...?

Pine cones open up when its dry. So you can put them in a low oven and watch the seed pods relax, lean back and say ahhhhhh.

Once they sense the humidity in the air, they'll close right back up again.

Who needs a weather rock? Now it's a weather pine cone.

DID YOW KNOW...

Beech nuts are a tasty treat we can pick from the tree even before the little gorgon casing opens? Giving us a tiny little headstart over the squirrels.

The mast (hairy casing) will open in a few hours. As the 4 petal like parts peel back, they reveal a velvety interior, protecting the 2 tiny little nuts inside. If you're lucky, there's an even tinier nut inside this pass the parcel esk autumn party favour.

If not, you didn't that time, restart the music and keep playing.

I worked my first event this weekend for It was a real learning experience seeing how all the different phases and transitions were managed and put together. The event day was near seamless. 🏅

I was marshalling for the cycle phase and in my tiny snippets of conversations with the passing participants I learned heaps about bikes. And also that hills aren't popular among cyclists 😆

All the participants and crew did a brilliant job on such a sweltering day. The BBQ at the end was definitely a welcome addition for me.

I'm training for my first 50k run. I've not yet chosen which one, (open to suggestions country wide), but the training is well under way.
Training and diet go hand in hand really, and anyone who's spoken to me for more than a few seconds knows how much I love my food. Particularly the tasty snacks.

I've been told many times that I always want to have my cake and eat it. I've never understood this saying. Who in their right mind wants a cake just to look at?!

So... I've been playing around with a few favourite recipes. The cupcakes are in fact mini chocolate lava cakes. There is zero sugar and zero chocolate in them plus extra cashew based protein and hidden fruit and veg. But they did pass the test with my 8 and 5 year old kids so that's more than enough proof for me that I'm on to a winner!

I'm happy to share the recipe if anyone want to message or comment for it? I think this post might be long enough 😄

P.S I saw the bee on a run and thought it looked adorable 😍

UNCHARACTERISTICALLY EMO POST

Last month, on international womens day, I passed my mountain leader award. It has taken me a while to write this post, it means more than I had originally thought it would. I've been torn between random 'look what I've done' post, or something more heartfelt. I don't usually post emotionally, but I'm taking a stand and being totally raw right now.

So be warned, I've chosen the more emotional path. It just seemed to fit more. This isn't a poor me post but the opposite. If anyone else has ever been told they're not able, worthless or stupid, then hopefully this'll inspire them to push past it and believe they're worth taking up space.

So for anyone not wanting to read on, its totally fine, stop here and just congratulate me, everyone else, let's go...
.. I grew up in zone 2 in London, thinking Richmond Park was scary and wild. It's been a steep learning curve, but one that I've grown to love and look forward to. I've spent more time crying on rocks than clambering over them and now I even look forward to the tears, knowing that next time, it'll be something even more dramatic and beautiful that brings them on.

The house I grew up in wasn't a happy one, I didn't have the support and guidance that usually comes from a loving family. So it has been difficult growing up a feeling like I can take up space in the world. I'm always moving out of the way or avoiding interactions altogether. Doing this award has taught me that I am smart, and strong, and deserve the things I work hard for. I am a capable person, who now not only can move about the entire country independently, I can take others with me.
Obviously I do forget at times, but I'm lucky that I've made some wonderful friends who will always remind me I'm not all those things I grew up being told.
I'm sending my most heartfelt gratitude to all the amazing friends I've made and all the support they've given me. I quite literally couldn't have achieved this award without all the time, messages, phone calls, and kit gifts.

Just came across this post from years ago! This is me on my lowland leader training! This course definitely set things in motion to change the course of my life. For the better I think. I've progressed from training with @mtnsafetyross and @rawadventures to working for them on various different challenges and adventures. I'm having a pretty bleugh week, with a knee injury keeping me on my ass more than I'd like. But it's given me time to sort some things out I probably would never have gotten around to. And organise some trips for friends and family. PLUS spend some time thinking about and appreciating the things I have accomplished in my body. The new training plan is in the making with some proper knee rehab featuring. I'm officially sending my love and thanks to everyone who has helped me, worked with me, gifted me anything, spent time to train or teach me, made me a cuppa, chatted nonsense with me, hugged me or shared a snack. Love love love 💕 Oh, and special thanks if you've ever brought me banana toast in bed and reminded me I'll be late for work if I don't leave. 🤣

DID YOU KNOW... The hedgehog mushroom is a close cousin of the chanterelle? It's been called a beginner friendly mushroom thanks to its spines underneath the cap. (instead of gills or pores) These spines also give it its cutesy name. The mushroom is low in fat and calories, high in protein, and is rich in several dietary minerals, especially iron and manganese, though it’s a very good source of magnesium, calcium, and zinc as well. When we've been on the go for a few days in a row we like to just get outside somewhere and wander. I hadnt intended a mushroom forage, but for some reason I felt drawn behind these bushes, only to find these growing in abundance. It seemed rude not to carefully pick a few. After teaching the kids how to properly identify them of course. CAMP KINDLING I had so so so much fun at camp kindling this weekend. I ran the Botanical Story Trail for this brilliant family festival, and each session was full of interested and inquisitive young minds ready to learn about trees and folklore. Each year, I check to see what new badges there are, and what did I spy this year? Meeee!!! I'm a camp badge now! So obviously, I had to get myself one for my wildfire beany. Can't wait to proudly wear it next weekend for the adults Camp Wildfire Festival.
