It was 4 years today, I decided to branch out on my own and set up a Private & Groups Tour company/business.

After years of guiding for other people & companies, I had a light bulb moment..

“I could do this for myself”

It has honestly been one of the best decisions, I have ever made. I knew what I wanted and needed to do, it was during them ridiculous “Lockdowns” were it gathered momentum. I got my website up and running and put my Tours together.

I have worked my arse off, contacting people and getting my name out there. Happy to say I have bulit up connections in the City and more importantly for me the World.

I have met so many great people and I do really appreciate people contacting me and showing an interest.

(Apologies for the self indulgence post but I am pretty proud were I have got this too) 😃

Here’s to the next 4 years, onwards & upwards!!

(Always take the leap, no regrets)

Looking forward to my Swedish & Irish contingent this week..

One of the greatest literary minds was born on this day in 1812, in Portsmouth.

Charles Dickens.

What’s his links to Liverpool you might wonder?

He first visited the City in 1838, he had many reasons to visit being a writer, actor and a public speaker.

He did many public readings in famous locations such as St George’s Hall & The Philharmonic Hall. He would also use our Port to travel back & forth to America.

Dickens famously walked the Cities streets as a undercover Constable, while researching for his novels in the 1860’s.

Former manager George Dolby said outside of London, Liverpool was his favourite City to visit in England 😎

There has been Chinese New Year celebrations in the City this weekend 🎉🐍🇨🇳

Did you know Liverpool has the oldest Chinese community in Europe? Just look how similar the Waterfront’s are, Shanghai’s is known as “The Bund”.

Many seafarers settled in Merseyside, some Chinese families can trace their Liverpool roots well over 100 years.

This year is the year of the Snake 🐍

“Can I tell you the Story of a Poor Boy”..

This week marks the 125th anniversary of the “Battle of Spion Kop”, which took place during the Second Boer War- 23rd/24th January 1900.

A military engagement between the British forces and the two Boer Republics broke out. “Spioen Kop” a Dutch Afrikaans term is a hill just outside Ladysmith in South Africa 🇿🇦.

Fought over two days it is still one of the biggest losses of life for the British Army. Around 300 local men from the Northwest of England, were killed.

For the men who returned to Liverpool, they quickly realised the muddy mound of earth behind the goal, on the Walton Breck Road End looked similar.

Around 1905-6 local reporters and fans nicknamed it “The Kop” in honour of the men who fell in Battle.

The club in 1928 bulit on a roof and made it a terrace by filling it with concrete.

The rest is history.. I am lucky enough to have a couple of Season Tickets on it. To live and breath it every other week is pretty special 🔴

Many football stadiums around the UK have named their biggest stand behind the goal- “The Kop” because of its steep incline.

That bloody battle and hill still lives on in popular culture and of course Liverpool Football Club!

On this Day in 1957, the famous Cavern Club Liverpool opened its doors for the very first time.

It originally started off as a Jazz club, the vision to become the top Jazz venue outside the City of London.

It had a decent start, but it wasn’t until the birth of Mersey beat in the 1960’s that it came into its own.

Did you know The Beatles played it an impressive 292 times in less than two years, between 61-63?

Sadly, a decision was taken to demolish the original in the 1970’s. Todays club dates to the 80’s, it’s definitely worth a visit 🎸.

(Contrary to belief, it’s still on the same side of the road) 😃

Hi All,

There will be a slight increase in my Private & Group Tours in 2025..

New price list coming 🔜.

Not really something I wanted to do, but across the board all tours and people’s rates have gone up, which is completely understandable and fair 👍🏻.

My guiding rates for clients I do jobs for, will remain the same if they are already fixed in.

It’s looking like a busy year for Tourism in Liverpool, for what I have seen and heard. 👋

Remember all prices are negotiable.

If you’re visiting this year and interested in a Tour, contact me via a DM on here and I will see what I can do.

Thanks for you support and following,

Dave (DB)
