Interesting quick read!
Ever wondered why the Liver Birds are named Bella and Bertie? 🤔
Well, nobody knows for sure!
With Bella, we can trace it back to when Liverpool got its Royal Charter. Isabella of Angoulême, who was married to King John, was the queen at the time. Since it was King John who granted the charter, it makes sense that Bella could be named after his queen.
As for Bertie, his name likely comes from Edward VII, who was called Bertie within the royal family. He was the king when the Royal Liver Building was being built, so it's likely Bertie was named after him.
Either way, we think they suit their names 😅
