Taiwanese post-grad couple Tzu-Yu and Hank Chui, guests Resident Hotels Liverpool, joined our walking tour today. They enjoyed a brief history of Liverpool before touring and discovering for themselves what a magical place Liverpool can be.
Why not see the sights they saw and book a tour at www.walkietalkietours.co.uk/booking 👍

Nice touch from a stranger outside Liverpool Anglican Cathedral today. I was the last coach tour out from the Carnival Legend this afternoon, taking guests on a panoramic tour of the City. As you may have noticed there was lots of liquid sunshine about today, with squally showers making it difficult for guests to enjoy their surroundings off the coach.
Anyway, getting towards the end of the tour I decided despite the weather it was worth a try to leave the coach and view the Anglican Cathedral from the outside (there being graduations on in there) and show them John Foster Jnr’s Oratory. Needless to say, as soon as we alighted and got one of the guests into his wheelchair, the heavens opened appropriately in a biblical downpour. While most of the guest beat a hastily retreat back to the coach the gentleman in the wheelchair needed the bathroom. So as we sailed towards the Cathedral, the wheelchair user getting soaked a local, suited and booted and obviously going to support a Liverpool John Moores University graduand stepped- forward and gave the wheelchair user his umbrella saying “Keep it, I’ve a spare one in my car, so take it”. Really touchy, kind and made me very proud of our City. A Good-Samaritan? Thank you whoever you were.👍

Professor Goldman St Peter's College Oxford ( ) and students from the University of Missouri Mizzou visited Liverpool today as part of their studies on Liverpool's role in the Trans-Atlantic trade and commerce including the Slave trade. They enjoyed our City and also brought the sunshine with them. Got to say they were a credit to both institutions. 👍

Beautiful day and beautiful ship in the City . Today was a ‘In the footsteps of the Beatles’ tour ironically by coach! Leon the coach driver was new to Liverpool, so it was a case of navigating and commentating as we meandered our way to Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields and the various Beatles’ homes, Mendips, Forthlin Road and Madryn Street before the Beatles Story and Mathew Street. It turned out to be a real Magical Mystery tour; who knew that Woolton had so many small back lanes? Definitely a whole new ball-game taking a 50 seater coach, serpent like around them, but we got there - I told everyone we were taking the scenic route, while Leon the driver uttered and muttered prayers beneath his breath. However, it all worked out in the end and we got some lovely feedback from a fantastic tour group. 😀

Like Katrina & the Waves we were Walking on Sunshine today. Met up with (soon to be married) Rahul & friends from London who are enjoying a Stag weekend here. Really nice group of lads and obviously well dressed 😉 Visited Jürgen's Bierhaus & The Bridewell and were made very welcome in both.

I was out touring Liverpool with multinational Group 22 from the beautiful ’s 'Jewel of the Seas', which was visiting Liverpool today. We covered many topics on our tour: Liverpool history, religion, architecture and culture, the Beatles and both the French and Portuguese Camino’s as some of the Group hoped to walk one.
So lots to see and chat about on the way around, which is always fun. At the end I got a nice parting compliment from some of the company saying that I was the best guide so far that they’d had on the cruise - so I was very proud of the ambassadorial role I’d played for our Great City today. 👍In response I thanked them and told them they were the best group I’d had today 😂 - it's always nice to finish a tour with a laugh!

Another day and weirdly another Group 17 to tour with - it must be age related😂.! However, today was a coach tour from the MS Rotterdam which was visiting Liverpool. We done the ‘Liverpool Highlights’ tour which included a visit to Penny Lane, Ringo’s home streets and the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King. There was lots of singing of Beatles songs, but must admit not that many hymns! 😁 We did however, finish on ‘In my Liverpool home’ which to my surprise (considering the different nationalities on the tour) everyone seemed to know the words to. Tour went extremely well. Why not see what people travel halfway around the world to see and book a tour at http://www.walkietalkietours.co.uk/booking and I promise not to sing 🤣

Celebrity Silhouette was in town today - well the cruise terminal 😉 and had the pleasure of taking tour 17 around the City. It was quite actioned packed with the new Guy Richie movie been shot around the Town Hall / Exchange flags & Castle Street we didn't spot Natalie Portman or John Krasinki but I learned a lot about who they were! Very well informed were group 17. 👍 Finished off with a tour of the The Beatles Story before a stroll in the sunshine back to the ship. 😀

Many many thanks to Philip for organising the tour and I hinted that when I reach 41 I may join them 👍🤣🤣

Although winter and mid-November another glorious day to walk with Paul, Ann, Margaret and Denise from Shropshire and guests . Michael requested 'can they go to some unusual places'? (no pressure there, then 😅)! So we visited a Chinese arch, two Cathedrals, gents toilets and feeling flush (groan) a rather large pyramid shaped tombstone along with sitting where the Beatles sat, the waterfront and a place where Charles Dickens became a policeman for one night The Bridewell. Phew!
Who said we can't offer the unusual if required 👍😂

Why not join us and look at the City from a different perspective? 🥳

You may have read that the Peace Boat was visiting Liverpool yesterday and today as part of its ‘Around-the-World’ 105 day long cruise (yes a 3 months cruise)!!! Talk about the elephant in the room, I’d be like a whole herd of them after spending 3 months onboard! 😃.
Had the privilege of taking a coach full of passengers from the ship around, showing them the City highlights including the Cathedrals, City centre, Albert Dock and Beatles’ related locations out in the suburbs, all of which they seem to have enjoyed.
The ship’s Excursions Crew were extremely efficient and gave me my very first aerial flag things to wave about to keep the passenger group together - things got even better when I found I could get Test Match Special on it too! 🤣
The Excursions Crew also mentioned that there had been some issues with guests (who were mainly Japanese) and didn’t understand the local languages and particularly what time to be back on the coach! See if you can guess the time we were leaving the Metropolitan Cathedral? Sometimes the simple ways are the best! 👍

With the staff and students from Kurpfalz Internat School, Germany today, who are visiting Liverpool for a few days. We braved storm Agnes as we visited the waterfront and city centre and although the students were well behaved and a credit to their school I did try and get a few of them locked-up in the cells of the always accommodating The Bridewell 😅. I explained to the students that in the old-days it was tough being in the cells as they only had black & white TVs in there and not colour 😂.

Bigger than Cunard’s latest ship the Queen Anne, the Disney Dream berthed today for a short turn-around visit to the City. I took one of the twenty-four official coach tours leaving the cruise terminal - it was manic!
It’s the first time I’ve taken a group including younger (pram size) children and you may have heard me mention in the past about some adult groups being like herding cats but herding kittens is a whole new ball game - hats off to teachers and other children related professions!
The tour was the Liverpool City Panoramic tour so it was around the City centre and a visit to the four Cathedrals of Liverpool, two secular and two spiritual. 😀
After a tour of the City we managed to stop and get a parking spot outside Anfield. However, despite holding the traffic up we couldn’t stop at Goodison, which was England’s first purpose built football stadium and the first ground in the UK to have Royalty visit! Then it was off to the dizzy heights of Everton, strangely a place where Everton FC have never played!
Scooted along the ridge with visits to St George’s and the Everton Lock-up before visiting the two spiritual Cathedrals and the Chinese Arch and then back to the ship via the Royal Albert Dock. Along the way I explained about Mickey’s long lost cousin Mickey Scouse 🙂 but not sure that they bought it! 🤣

Why not book a tour and make your own memories at www.walkietalkietours.co.uk/booking it Disney take long!! 🤣

Had the pleasure of taking Group 21 from the Celebrity Cruises Celebrity Cruises beautiful ship Apex on a tour of the City on Thursday last. We decided after a quick vote that our group was the best looking of all the 38 groups on tour that day.😁 We also agreed that Liverpool was wonderful city and well worth a visit. Experienced the Waterfront, Mathew Street and the City centre before a timely visit to The Bridewell to re-hydrate 🤣

It seems that Sussanne has been opportunistic and enterprising in that ‘working from home’ means rather than staying in her native Frankfurt Germany she can WFH in Liverpool too! 🙂

Had the pleasure of spending the majority of the day showing around 'Group 15' from the beautiful ship Celebrity Apex https://m.facebook.com/508223649192208/?locale=en_GB , what a wonderful ship and group! 👍
Right from the start they were up for a laugh, joined in with the banter and were very knowledgeable. For most it was their first visit to Liverpool but a few had been here before. Infact one wanted to know if you could still get fish & chips wrapped in newspaper here- alas I had to tell him no!
For some reason my right shoelace kept coming open -I didn't realise how stressful it can be when fastening your laces with 25 people looking on & shouting encouragement. I said I didn't have my mother to dress me this morning & this lady offered to do them for me. I declined but had to use a pair of scissors to get out of my shoes when I got home! 😉
Walking is still the best way of seeing the city, you can visit little nooks & crannies & tailor the walk to suit. Talked a lot about the city's history including its part in the trade of enslaved people, its culture, humour & musical legacy. We eventually made it to the The Beatles Story - which having explored Mathew Street helped to bring home the impact of the Beatles are still having on the city.
A fab group of people to tour with & looking forward to another Celebrity ship visit in the near future👍
Why not come and see what people have sailed the Atlantic to see.

Would recommend visiting Santiago de Compostela to anyone- however, it is a bit of a pain involving two flights or one and a big walk 😀.
Besides the Cathedral, in little nooks & crannies there are cafés and bars, public art in hidden squares and a nice aura & atmosphere about the place.
We repeated an experience Catherine & I had last time we were here. Bought fresh seafood & meat in the market & brought it to another stall to have it cooked. Guy gave us a choice of times to come back, we chose 3pm. Bit more church, shops & bar exploring and then we returned. Cooked to perfection with fresh salad & potatoes & local wine (or two) it's an experience to savour in every sense!
As we were feeling a bit nostalgic we visit a 'dive' bar we'd previously been in & made the night of it. Can only recommend trying it yourself. Buen Camino 👍

Padron where we stayed last night takes its name from O'Pedron a weird shaped stone that's now situated under the altar of Igrexa de Santiago (looks kind of ph***ic)! It is where legend has it that St James started his ministry in Spain & where his mortal remains were brought back following his martyrdom in Jerusalem, in a mysterious boat journey, that may or may not involved a young dark madonna!
Having said all that it is a pretty cool place with lots of tiny squares each having their own quirks & bars, serving tapas or racions (not quite sure this far north). Ate at a tiny place by te bridge (yes another roman one) with literally hundreds of cycling shirts hanging there, thought mine smelt ok next to them 😩
Enjoyed the stay & would recommend the Alburgue Corredoiras to anyone travelling that way - probably the best on the journey.
So this morning by the light of the silvery moon (stop! This is not a songsheet), we started the 27 km walk into Santiago. You would think that it would be down hill but no there's two +260m climbs and they're both within the last 10km - penance indeed!
Initial journey was along the valley floor, it was freezing & the sun only penetrated around 11 am. Just on time for the sun to roll out of bed, put its hat on and roast us on the climbs. Made it into Santiago & found were we are staying (uphill). I showed Alfie as much of the town as i could remember saw the beautiful Cathedral & as there wasn't so much of a queue we got our Compostelas 😂. CAught up with friends from along the way & lovely surprise Andy & Eleanor from Liverpool. 270km in 12 days not too bad at all! Chat tomorrow when i go in search of my original stick - Buen Camino xx

Last nignt the downpour during the night was of biblical proportions added to by Hammer Horror lightening effects! As we left the Alburgue it had eased to a mild monsoon, it was extremely wet. The walk between O'Perrino & Redondela was just 18 km with a climb of 300m but by the time we'd floated down the town centre to pick up the arrows- distance was almost secondary - was expecting to see Noah with a few planks of wood. 😀
Great news less than 100km to go (99.84) to be precise - so definitely on the home run. Walk took us up again through sleepy villages amazingly quiet as though abandoned with just the Cockerells shouting at each other. Around 11 we reached Mons where the town were out in force preparing for a bicycle race Hay bales abounding, and a very sophisticated start & finish line. I wondered as I struggled up the very steep hill that was part of the course & subsequent lanes that had Camino waymarkers - what carnage was going to ensue when bikes met tired peligrinos, alas wasn't there to see it. I did however flash my knees there as the Sun finally showed it face. Just before the descent into the next valley there was a tremendous vista & in tbe distance you can spot the Atlantic. By noon the sun & sun cream were out As you can get a Compostela from 100km the roads and Alburgue ms are heavier in Pilgrim traffic, which is bitter sweet if you'd walked further.. went looking for a pub to see tbe match & bumped into loads of Perignos who I've met at various times during the walk- the list of nations is endless & inspiring.

Today was a benign day - not too far maybe 11 miles & no large hills to contend with 😀. The walk started out very rural down a valley with mist covered mountains either side & then through forest trails. I thought I was breaking new ground but found out the XIX Roman legion had been here before me - besides straight roads whatever did the Romans do? Walking through the forest I heard the cries of what sounded like an animal being castrated by a blunt spoon - turns out it was guy playing the bagpipes- i donated and ask him if he could play 'Over the Hills & far away' but he just stayed there - bu**er!
The walk quickly went from countryside to urbanisation - so it was good to make it here. Found the town centre & also met an Irish man who'd lived in Germany for the last 30 years. I asked him is his satnav was still broken?
Friends have asked me if I'm walking for a charity - which I'm not. However, last night Alfie told me he's raising money in memory of his nephew Russel who died of MSA. If you want to donate please follow the link.
Thanks for all your support & comments & take care xx

Today we're off to sunny Spain, well actually the forecast's is a high of 22C, cloudy with scattered showers some heavy - couldn't argue with that. The right forecast but not necessarily in the right order! Welcomed this morning by a rainbow as we took a steep climb out of the valley. Steep climb out and a gentle (mostly) descent towards Spain. Walked through amazingly quiet villages - actually took ages to find a pitstop open. Not sure if I mentioned that our walk is South to North to Santiago (follow the yellow arrows), whereas the newly developed Camino Fatima (as per the Su Pollard TV) is N to S.(follow the blue arrows), came across a nice waymarker showing 132km Santiago, 368km Fatima - glad I'm not following Su! Crossed the Rio Minho from Portugal to Spain -yeah as we are halfway through the walk & to celebrate thought I'd try some Spanish wine- well there's a surprise!! Xx

Whereas yesterday was all about distance today was all about altitude. Out at 7am this morning & walked over Ponte de Lima. Its an eerie feeling quietly walking through early morning mist along an ancient empty bridge that's felt hundreds of thousands of feet with a hundred of thousand stories (or half that) conquerors & the vanquished, rich & poor oh & me and Alfie. Said Bom Dia to a (nice strange) Pilgrim shop owner who was part Shaman & Camino Champion. Apparently Alfie & I were the 7737-8 pilgrim he'd spoken to, so I had to chalk that (look under his right arm) then he rang a bell twice, shook his staff & wished us a safe journey! Rituals & religion who'd have thought? 😀 But it did set us off to a good start. Upward (always) along a boulder lined watercourse, farm tracks & dried stream beds lots of other pilgrims about - US & Canadians, Australian & NZs and strangely 3 female chaplains etc. With the weather running between 79-80c we crossed Rio Labruja which was innocent but had a really nasty valley to climb out of 😞, reached Rio Fonte which was whitewater & bustling & very scenic and then it was Alto da Portela Grande a beast. Brierley bases his paths up & down on old watercourses & as every scout & guide oh & geography teacher knows, water finds the easiest & quickest steepest path down. So a bu**er to get up, so much so it was more like rock climbing than hiking. Made it to the top & the shrine & left some remembrances there. Tremendous views but such a hard climb! Later it was literally all down hill from there to Rubiaes but the weather closed in & it started to rain. See next video ###
