Phill & Polly live, work and play in the heart of the Cambrian Mountains of mid Wales. We have over 20 years guiding experience in both the UK and Europe, and our knowledge and experience of Wales will ensure you have an amazing mountain biking adventure across one of Britain's last remaining wild landscapes. We're ideally situated to guide you across Wales along the Trans Cambrian Way (our specia

lity), explore the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons to the south, or the stunning Snowdonia National Park to the north. The Elan Valley is also a favourite of ours, and its large expanse of open land and excellent bridleways offer riders a true wild and remote adventure at every twist and turn along the trail. The forest centres at Nant Yr A***n, Coed Y Brenin and the Dyfi Forest also have excellent trail heads and are a great day out if you don't want to look at a map. However just a pedal stroke away are a network of off piste single-track trails that offer the seasoned trail rider so much more. All our weekends include great accommodation, food, guiding and transfers, and give you a real flavour of mid Wales life along your journey. So let us take all the hassle out of organising your weekend away, and guide you on your very own Wales adventure...

Last week we had the pleasure of hosting the Genesis Bikes Press Camp right here at The Lodge, Staylittle in mid Wales.

So we planned two days of riding to put the bikes through the grinder, and give the riders a real flavour of mid Wales gravel, we think we hit the nail on the head with both routes.

We’ve been looking forward to riding the new Croix de Fer as mush as the journalists, and it really didn’t disappoint. Quite possibly the most iconic adventure bike on the market, and with a new frame design and fork for the 931 steel and Ti, it’s just got a whole lot better. The Vagabond absolutely screams throw me down a trail on the drops! Olly was buzzing!

It was great to see so many people from the cycling industry enjoy our space, the food, and accommodation in such a relaxed atmosphere, all made possible by the team from Madison, in particular Maxim and Aled.

Thanks to Rosie for keeping everyone fuelled each day too, was delicious as ever. Gary at Ludlow Brewery for the refreshments.

For the full line up of new bikes including Tour de Fer pop over to their website and look for a new bike!

📸 Thansk to Jos for the great images too.

Traws Eryri day 4, Capel Curig to Conwy under rainbows in Ogwen Valley, and epic views across the North Wales Coast to the finish on Conwy Quay Side.

It’s been a great 4 days filled with plenty of banter and laughter from start to finish. Well done to everyone for trusting in us to guide your journey.

Just two to go in September and it’s all about 2025!

Polly took over guiding duties for day three of the Traws Eryri from Llan Ffestiniog to Capel Curig. Damp start to the day through Penmachno, but as they headed north along Sarn Helen, the clouds cleared for a dry afternoon.

Llyn Crafnant was as tough as ever, but the views from the top are well worth the efforts. A great evening in PYB too.

Traws Eryri day 2 Dolgellau to Llan Ffestiniog via the forest of kings, Coed Y Brenin. Y Slab provided the playground on our journey north, with lots of fun learning what the bike can do on steep rock.

Few classics from the 90s named after a popular cereal before leaving ghetto forest via Sarn Helen.

Sure was a beautiful day for playing on bikes!

From one crossing of Wales to the next! Traws Eryri day 1 from Machynlleth to Dolgellau via the ClimachX trail in Dyfi. Our route definitely tested both the nerve and stamina as we made our way north in mixed conditions toward the Mawddach Estuary.

The final drop by Arthog giving the biggest challenge. Quick pointing George III before arriving at our home from home for the night at Plas Isa Dolgellau.

Trans Cambrian Way Day 3, final push for the Dyfi Estuary. Our gang of ladies and gents made light work of their last day in the Cambrian Mountains with a great crossing from Llangurig to Machynlleth in great time.

The technical descent off Foel Fadian pushed their comfort zones to the limit, but the smiles on their faces at the finish said how much they enjoyed it. Challenging, but very very rewarding.

Thanks to Clare for sorting her gang out, and trusting in Dan to safely deliver them to the finish safe and in one piece! Never in doubt, top job as ever from the best.

Ian and Simon, you boys did well too!

Trans Cambrian Way from Knighton to Rhayader via Llanbadarn and St David’s Well. Great conditions for the ladies (along with Ian and Simon) with hard packed trail from a week of sunshine.

Fox gloves, friendly cows and lots of tape at the finish (Enduro GP) all to navigate through as they approached Rhayader.

Our local mountain rescue team, Aberdyfi Search & Rescue Team, needs your help and support.

Firstly, did you know that MRT teams right across Wales and the UK are funded by you, the public through donations and fundraising. That could be dropping a coin or two in a collection box, or raising money at a charitable event. It all helps immensely in keeping the team out on the hill when you need it.

So what’s that mean for us riders?

Well, every possible eventually really. You could take a fall from a bike on any trail, doesn’t have to be remote, just not in a great spot for an ambulance to get too. Same if you’re riding Dyfi Bike Park which is on our patch, and you hit the deck hard, unable to get down the hill. We’ll be there, 365 days of the year, 24hrs a day. The team is on call.

It doesn’t have to be a fall. You could be lost, benighted, stuck on a hill side due to weather. We’ll be there to es**rt you to safety.

So that’s bikes, but the team can be called out at anytime for any emergency at any time of the day, all on the good will and commitment of every team member to support you, your family or friends should the worse happen on the hill.

So if you have a few pounds to spare, it’s a great cause to support because you never know when it might be needed.

Head over to https://www.gofundme.com/f/AberdyfiSART-essential-kit-fundraising-campaign?attribution_id=sl:26271b36-e5d8-4265-9d70-b94fdabf3b0b&lang=en_US&utm_campaign=fp_sharesheet&utm_medium=customer&utm_source=copy_link to make your contribution and commitment to supporting Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team.

We’ve got two groups out on the Trans Cambrian this weekend, with the two Steve’s holding the reins. Our guests had great weather for their journey from Knighton to Rhayader with a fresh breeze across the lofty tops to keep them cool.

Time for a cold beer and celebrate a fine day out in mid Wales.

It’s been a manic few months of guiding, so getting out for a solo ride in the forest are few and very far between this time of year.

Luckily me and Suki managed to catch a couple of hours last evening. Popped on my Trash Free Trails jersey, grabbed the big Orange Bikes STAGE 6 EVO (so miss riding this bike) and hit the forest. Just what we needed!

Traws Eryri Day 4, Ogwen Valley. The ride up the old road toward Llyn Ogwen with the Glyder range to left, and Carneddau to the right is one of the most spectacular views in Eryri.

Once through the valley, heading down Nant Ffrancon, you glance back to Cwm Idwal, Tryfan, and the Devils Kitchen. Stunning.

Traws Eryri day two, Dolgellau to Llan Ffestiniog via Coed y Brenin. After the persistent rain of day one, the trails dried out nicely for a quick ride north. The views across to the Rhinogydd from Sarn Helen are simply epic.

A great evening of food and drink in the Pengwern was the perfect finish to a great day.

Our day one of our July Traws Eryri tour was wetter than an otters pocket! Dyfi was a little damp, but the heavens really opened for Aberganolwyn to Dolgellau around Cadair Idris.

Despite the conditions, our group trucked along at a nice pace through the rain, finishing with a warm welcome (and accommodation) with Ian and Hanneke at Plas Isa Dolgellau.

Quick change and out for a great dinner and a beer just around the corner at The Stag Inn Snowdonia.

Steve B was also out guiding the Trans Cambrian Way for us over the weekend, with a group of lovely riders from around the UK, Dallas Texas, and Queenstown, NZ.

Three maybe even four seasons in one day for most of the crossing from Knighton to Machynlleth. Coat on, coat off, coat on, seemed to be the theme. Either way, they had great fun and finished their epic journey in good time.

Awesome day two on our Elan Valley Summer Epic. Yet again the heavens opened on our way up to Treheslog and down Black Cottage descent. The rain definitely made braking a little sketchy on the steeper section, making it that little bit more exciting!

Great to see the Builth crew out too, flying down Penygarreg. Rhydoldog was running really well, especially as the sun came out!

A great weekend as ever in Elan Valley and Rhayader. A big thanks to Stew, Susan, Chris, Pete, James, Chris, Steve and David for joining us. Safe travels home.
