Recycling comes to Welsh businesses. Well, recycling has always happened but it used to be done at a plant by the lovelies at . The recent changes bring primary recycling in (as most already do at home) and so we’ve provided sorting containers (with handles for ease of carrying to the main bins in the car park) so you can sort as you go. Happy sorting. We’re all wondering which ‘recycling’ our guests will excel at 🤣

A quick post to show the changes to the access at Newborough. From the car park you now walk past the old access and towards the forest. Access is on the left. As you can see in the photo it is now a flat access to the beach making it much more friendly for buggies, wheel chairs and for anyone who found the climb off the beach a bit of a struggle.

Bertie's absolute favourite place in the world is Newborough. There is something to discover on every visit. Last week we walked past Ynys Llanddwyn and there it is, poking from the sand and definitely not going anywhere.

Mr AM here. Every time I visit Anglesey I am amazed by the stars and how much clearer they are than back home. More than once I have wished I have my telescope with me (I confess, I'm a geek). For this reason we've splashed out on 76mm scope from Celestron. Okay, it isn't the JWST (one for the geeks there), but it will get great views of the moon, probably the Orion Nebula, the moons of Jupiter, and probably decent views of Venus.

For anyone visiting it is in a box on top of the wardrobe in the twin bedroom. Happy viewing.

It seems strange to say that you "love" the weather; however, we LOVE the weather on Anglesey. I don't know if we're just lucky but it is usually brilliant sunshine. Even when the sun is hiding, the island doesn't seem to get much rain. When it does rain though, it comes at you horizontally. For those rare occasions, we have added a Fire TV Stick to the TV! This means that you can sign in to your favourite streaming services and keep every member of the family happy. Personally, I'd get out in the wind and the rain. Mrs Afon Menai, and the little AM's, would probably leave me to it.

Just make sure that you sign out before you leave.

Finally managed to finish our mini-series of the Parkruns local to Afon Menai. This is Nant-y-Pandy which starts right in the heart of Llangefni. It's not as well known as Newborough which is just down the road; however, for my money it is just as good. It is definitely not somewhere to run when you are hunting a PB, but certainly worth the effort.

We received some great feedback last year; however, this was our favourite. It was the first time we received feedback in Welsh. Mr Afon Menai, having struggled when he was young, returned to learning Welsh following a significant birthday. He managed most of it, but had to resort to his trusty dictionary for a couple of words (thank you Aunt Edna).

"A very comfortable cottage. Everything you need is here. Have enjoyed it. I would recommend the cottage to anyone who wants to stay on Anglesey."

Glad to hear that our guests are having a nice time. We've had some magnificent weather this year. It tends to be the way with Anglesey. It is either glorious (which is the case more often than not) or the rain is coming down sideways (not very often) and you have got to find somewhere to hunker down. Suits us fine.

When you book through you get the option of requesting a welcome pack. We really would recommend them. They are stocked with local produce and we've heard nothing but good things about them.

We also supply a small pack of washing supplies. We include a sponge, a handful of dishwasher tablets and extra bin-liners. We've just moved from a plastic bag to paper. Just trying to minimise our impact a little bit at a time.

A quick behind the scenes shot. We leave a housekeeping book for visitors to report anything that they think needs attention. We also leave spare bulbs just in case. A big thank you to for taking great care of our guests when there is something that cannot wait.

We only have a week of availability left in October and it is for half-term. This is probably our favourite time of the year for great beach walks. The added bonus is that summer restrictions come to an end after September and dogs are once again allowed the full length of all the beaches. The hot tub is also at its best. If you get a clear night then settle down, turn off the lights and admire the stars

Another great comment in the visitors' book. We love the hot tub too, especially now the nights are getting a little cooler. We even supply excellent plastic glasses (pictured) to keep everyone happy and safe.

If you come to visit this summer, or indeed if you seen an RNLI collection box anywhere on your travels, please consider popping a few pounds in. The are real heros going out in all weather to help those who find themselves in difficulty in or around the sea. Run entirely on voluntary donations, they cannot do anything without our donations.

There are just so many jobs to do. But we want to do our best to make sure that our guests have a great time.

We always supply a small kit of essentials. There are poo bags and treats for our four legged friends. You'll find spare bulbs in one of the top cupboards alongside a first aid kit and a torch. To our knowledge there has never been a power cut, but you never know.

During our visit in June it was decided that Mrs Afon Menai should get some time to herself (she claims to have been working but we have our doubts). We decided to make our third visit to . For those who don't know, the site is run by Richard Holt and his family. Richard is lovely. He is S4C's answer to Paul Hollywood (he joked that his mates call him 'Richard Holyhead"). Drop by, grab a coffee, have a chat with Richard about Landrovers, and buy some of his amazing Mônuts (or gin, or siocled).

Make sure to make the most of Saturday mornings. Newborough Park Run is simply stunning. It is only a ten minute drive away. Make sure to pre-register. We love Parkrun.

We love Parkrun. This is Penrhyn Castle, one of three events near Afon Menai. There is a great course, amazing views, a cafe, and a train museum. What more could you ask for?

Having 2 small children; we are no strangers to the playgrounds of Anglesey. These are some of our favourites. They all share one thing in common and that is that they are all within easy walking distance of a cafe.

Our picks are Plas Newydd, Happy Valley (next door to Beaumaris Castle), and Breakwater County Park.

While we were last at Afon we enjoyed a fantastic bbq for tea one night. A bbq (that uses charcoal) is provided along with tools. The table & chairs next to the field is a lovely spot to enjoy the country views.
