I have delighted in telling visitors to Llansteffan about the history of our village’s Mock Mayor, which is such a special and unique tradition and institution we are lucky to have. Well as of this Fiesta Week I can now say I have the privilege of actually BEING the newest Mock Mayor of Llansteffan!!!🏵️
I’m overjoyed to fulfil this duty, but in no way will this affect my first and most beloved role as your tour guide for Llansteffan 🌂

This year one of Llansteffan’s most unusual and interesting buildings turns 100 years old!
The Church Hall or ‘Tin Shed’ as it is more commonly known has had many different uses over the last century, being the very first indoor space for community use in the village. To celebrate I created this exquisite model, indistinguishable from the real thing 💒

Another guided tour, this time a very special visit to Coomb Mansion in Llangynog just north of Llansteffan. Occasionally there are coffee mornings hosted here and the owner very graciously offers tours of the house with help from Bruce the historian, so this was an opportunity I simply couldn’t miss!

This beautiful house is so fascinating and historically important, it has connections to Union-Castle line, was a boy’s school, and then the first Leonard Cheshire Home in Wales, and thus significant place of employment for the local area, including Llansteffan.

It was a real privilege to visit this special place, and I just wanted to thank the hosts (the owner, Bruce the historian, and the lovely Llangynog people who provided the refreshments), and also to highly recommend that you visit Coomb next time there is a coffee morning there, the admission is free, all you have to pay for is the coffee and cake which is delicious! 😋

I love doing guided tours of other places, not only because they are so interesting but especially because I can learn so much about how to improve my own tours of Llansteffan.

I’ve been able to enjoy tours of Carmarthen, New Ross, and learnt a great deal from a fascinating tour during my recent visit to Stratford Upon Avon with the brilliant STRATFORD TOWN WALK 💛

If you are in Stratford I highly recommend this informative tour which is excellent value, and you will learn a lot about the absolutely beautiful town, including many things besides Shakespeare! But also be able to visit several key locations connected to him which is really a true privilege 🪶 🌂

Next Saturday 25th May I will be leading a new themed walk: Disasters in Llansteffan! 🌊

Fortunately there haven't been too many disasters here, but I will be focusing mostly on the Great Flood of 1607, as well as one or two others.

It begins on the Village Square at 12pm. If you fancy tagging along it's £10 per person, no need to book. If you would like to come but can't make that particular time/date, feel free to book it again for any time that suits you better.

Naturally the walk is weather (and tidal wave) permitting!

Did you know that this house was built by and lived in by one of Carmarthenshire's High Sheriffs? (The house on the left, the one in my hand was built by.... me!)

In fact Robert Parnall was one of 10 High Sheriffs of Carmarthenshire who have come from Llansteffan.

There is an interesting event at Lord’s Park tomorrow, an open day with tours of the farm by its new tenants Glasbren, the wonderful permaculturalists 🥬🥒🥕
Lord’s Park is such a unique place and very historically significant to Llansteffan, with recorded usage dating back to medieval times.
It is a beautiful setting and very welcoming too 🩷
I strongly encourage attending this open day, it will inspire you to grow ☀️ 🌿🍎 🌼

Did you know that Llansteffan was part of the Duchy of Cornwall for seven years?!?!

And not only that, Cornwall has its very own version of Llansteffan!

Happy St Piran’s Day! 🥟
St Piran is the Patron Saint of Cornwall, and today is a day when we celebrate Cornwall and all things Cornish. And once again, I have adorned my official tour guide hat accordingly 👒(Cornish Tartan, in case you were wondering).
