🌊What is Wild Swimming?
Wild swimming is, essentially, swimming in the wild. So a swim in the sea, a dip in a lake, or even a paddle in a river, you are wild swimming. Outdoor swimming also covers lidos, which in Britain, can be even colder than the ocean.
Wild swimming lets you experience your surroundings in a unique way.
🌊Why should I do it?
There are so many benefits to wild swimming.
Boosts your immune system
Improve circulation
Better sleep
Boosts your brain power
Good for the skin and hair
Manage anxiety, stress and depression
Increase alertness, clarity and energy levels
Release endorphins!
Swimming allows you to immerse yourself in an environment and become part of it.
🌊What stroke should I do?
Front crawl is the best as it’s the most energy-efficient, as swimming outdoors is harder than in an indoor pool. If you can’t do front crawl, any stroke is fine, but not really backstroke as it’s hard to navigate, and can make you look like you need help!
🌊Is it safe?
Like many things in the outdoors, it does come with risk. It seems obvious, but the most important thing is to be able to swim confidently. Know your limits, as there will not be a sexy like Baywatch lifeguard anywhere.
