Important Announcement: Changes in UK Immigration Policies Affecting International Students 🌍

I’m sure some of you may have already seen updates from the UKVI regarding new government restrictions that will impact students. There are some good news and obviously some not so good news..

Let's start with the good news! First and foremost, most of these changes will affect students coming with dependents(after January 2024). So if you’re single, or you’re already planning for September intake, you do not have to worry about it at all.
Secondly, the Graduate Route/PSW remains unaffected for both existing and new students. There were some rumours suggesting PSW will be ending - that’s definitely not the case. So, if you're already on the student route or planning to pursue it in upcoming intakes, rest assured that there are no changes to worry about.

However, for those of you considering bringing dependents along, there are some important points to note:

1. Restriction on Dependent Entry: The right for international students to bring dependents will be removed, except for those enrolled in postgraduate courses currently designated as research programs. It's important to understand that this requirement applies to courses such as PhD programs AND specific postgraduate programs with designated research components. There are several MSc courses that do have an element of designated research attached to it but we might need to wait for official announcement from UKVI to obtain a comprehensive list of eligible courses to avoid speculations.
2. Changes to Switching from Student to Work Visa: International students will no longer have the ability to switch from the student route to work routes before completing their studies.

3. Reviewing Maintenance Requirements: UKVI will be reviewing the maintenance requirements for students and their dependents. This may include changes to the maintenance fee and the duration for which financial statements should be maintained. Stay tuned for the official announcement for more details on these changes as there’s no exact figures we have for now.
4. Crackdown on Unscrupulous Education Agents: UKVI is taking steps to clamp down on unscrupulous agents who may be involved in facilitating inappropriate immigration applications rather than focusing on genuine educational opportunities. This measure aims to tackle fraud, scams, and other unethical practices in the industry. This is the Need of the hour and will surely save students and their parents hard earned money from dodgy agents!

I understand that these changes may raise further questions and concerns. Rest assured, I am closely monitoring and will provide you with further updates as soon as we receive them. Until then, please be patient and avoid speculations.
