The dramatic two-kilometre-wide lunar-like Al Wahbah Crater is one of Saudi Arabia’s great natural wonders. Located on the edge of the volcanic Harrat Kishb, a two-hour drive from Taif, this vast maar crater was once thought to have been the result of a meteorite impact but it is now generally accepted to have been formed by an enormous volcanic explosion that occurred when groundwater came into contact with hot lava. The views looking down from the rim of the Al Wahbah Crater are stunning, but the experience of taking the steep 60-minute hike down to the crater floor with its heart of sodium phosphate crystals is simply magical and well worth the effort involved.⁣

Photo of the Day: One of the highlights of a trip to Tibet is a visit to the iconic red-and-white Potala Palace, once home to the Dalai Lama. Although incredibly photogenic from the outside, a visit to the interior of the Palace is not to be missed. Filled with grand staterooms and beautiful chapels decorated using intricate murals and painted thangkas, the palace is a treasure trove of sacred Buddhist scriptures and priceless gifts from Chinese Emperors.

Taktsang monastery, more commonly known as Tiger’s Nest, is one of the most revered places in Bhutan. The picturesque monastery seemingly hangs off the face of the cliff that rises from the valley floor some 900 metres below. Traversing diverse scenery, the trail to Tiger’s Nest passes through dense forest, rocky chasms and trickling waterfalls. The roundtrip hike takes between 4 and 5 hours and there are spectacular views of both the monastery and the encompassing valley along much of the route.⁣ ⁣
