Happy New Year!

As 2024 washes away, and with 2025 just around the corner - I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all Destination Seekers customers, colleagues, suppliers and followers for their support in the last 12 months!

It’s been a whirlwind of a year. We’ve booked more than 30 trips on behalf of solo travellers, couples and families, taking them all over the world to incredible destinations. I’ve even managed to pack in a few breaks, too, not to mention two amazing work trips to Peru and Portugal.

Here’s to an equally enjoyable and adventurous year ahead for us all!

Not everyone is a seasoned traveller - and it’s easy to take our experiences for granted.

So, we've put together some handy travel tips for those of you heading out on your first international adventure (or those wanting an enjoyable and stress-free trip!).

☀️ Research, research, RESEARCH! From getting to grips with the local currency to swotting up on regional traditions, get to know your destination before you go. You’ll feel more confident and avoid any problems while you’re away.

☀️ Pack light. It can be tempting to bring everything but the kitchen sink with you on holiday, but it’s best to avoid heavy luggage, to avoid carrying it everywhere you go.

☀️ Organise your luggage. Don’t just throw everything into a bag, instead use packing cubes and organisers to help you separate your items by type. You’ll find that you can probably fit more into your baggage this way - especially useful if you’re travelling with cabin luggage only.

☀️ Double check your documents. Keep your passport, boarding passes, and visas if needed, within easy reach. You can find a list of international entry requirements on the gov.uk website. If you’re planning to use your mobile to display tickets, carry a portable charger around with you to avoid your battery dying.

☀️ Check your passport is in date! This can catch out even the most experienced of us, and it’s particularly important because European destinations now require you to ensure that your passport is valid for at least three months after you intend to leave the country you are visiting. Your passport also has to have been issued in the last 10 years.

☀️ Buy travel insurance. Wherever you’re going, and however long you’re going for, this is a MUST. Plenty of providers offer single trip policies for just a few pounds, so there’s really no excuse for travelling uninsured.

🎄Christmas Travel🎄

Whilst many of you might be jetting off to more exotic shores this Christmas, the majority of us will be spending the holidays at home here in the UK with our loved ones.

If you are worried about surviving this particularly chaotic time at home, here’s some travel advice from our team. Consider these little nuggets of wisdom our gift to you as you navigate the silly season!

✔️ Check your route - and check it again! You should always assume that the roads are going to be congested this time of year, but it helps to know exactly what’s in store when you set off to visit friends and family. Google Maps or Apple Maps are often the go-to apps for up-to-date travel information, but thanks to its heavy driver focus and customisation options, Waze is another great bet. If you’re travelling by public transport, all the major train/bus providers publish information on their transport times and delays on their websites.

✔️ Avoid travelling at peak times. The busiest day for train travel is typically the last Saturday before Christmas, which falls on the 21st December this year. If you’re planning to travel by car, try to complete the first leg of your journey before the 22nd December - and if you absolutely must travel over this weekend, do so before 11am and/or after 6pm.

✔️ Be prepared to break up longer journeys. From wee breaks to lunch runs, there will be plenty of reasons to stop - and you need to be well-rested to drive safely. Find some nice scenic spots or cosy pubs on route so you see more than just motorway service stations.

✔️ Pack light. The more you travel with, the more difficult it is to get around! Here’s an insider tip: Layer up your clothing to keep half your wardrobe out of your case or backpack.

I know it’s tough thinking about your festive plans when the summer barely over - but now really is the best time to start planning and booking your seasonal break.
Here are a few ideas for inspiration!

🗽 New York City

Is there anything more magical than Times Square at Christmastime? The Big Apple is a popular destination at this time of year because there’s so much to see and do. From ice skating at the Rockefeller Center rink to impressive light displays and themed Broadway shows, you’ll be spoilt for choice here.

🥨 Any German city

From Cologne to Dresden, Berlin to Frankfurt, pretty much every major settlement in Germany hosts an impressive Christmas market during December. Gothic architecture, endless stalls and plenty of Gluehwein makes any Christmas stay memorable.

🍻 Prague

The Christmas markets in Prague are a sight to behold. Plus, there are plenty of traditional concerts and Christmas trees dotted around the city to get you in the festive spirit. Why not also try a traditional Czech Christmas dinner with locally sourced carp fish?

🥃 Edinburgh

If you’d like to travel a little closer to home, the Scottish capital is a lively yet accessible option for all the family. Its charming buildings and cobbled streets provide the perfect backdrop for some Christmas fun. Edinburgh also hosts one of the world’s largest New Year’s Eve celebrations. Make sure you book your Edinburgh adventure soon, though, as flights and accommodation will be snapped up quickly.

🗻 Iceland
The snow capped landscapes add a super Christmassy feel to any stay - and with plenty of unique festive traditions to explore, your stay in Iceland at this time of year will be truly magical. Plus, there’s always the chance you’ll get to see the famous Northern Lights!

Is it worth booking an airport fast track pass? 🏃

Well, the bottom line is, if you often find yourself getting anxious about making your way through the airport - particularly if you’ve got little ones in tow, or you know you’ll have a tight turnaround - a fast track ticket can usually get you through security much faster, leaving you with more time to get your bearings in the departures lounge and locate the right gate for your flight.

Disclaimer: no airport can guarantee that its fast track lines will be quicker than its standard queues. However, if you are travelling at peak times (before 10am, or in the school holidays, for example), you’re more likely to experience the benefits of your fast track privilege.
