Another place you could visit on your holiday in Cairo is the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir square.
There are loads of interesting things to be found inside, a couple of mine are the median or Fayoum geese, and this representation of Hathor.
But there are amazing models of everything to do with everyday life, cooking, making bread, making beer. And of course the magnificent golden mask and jewellry of pharaoh Tutankhamen.
If you choose to stay in the nearby hotel then Old Cairo is also very close, a very interesting area.

In Egypt you never know who you might see on the street, Sufi dancer, a man selling balloons and candy floss, a man selling home made flutes or drums, in the evening maybe a milk man with churns on his truck, in the morning a noisy truck hitting gas bottles with a spanner to let you know he is there if you need more gas for your cooking. They have their own version of a rag and bone man too. These two gentlemen, came around making music for us.

Have you ever been to the Khan el Khalili in Cairo? It is one of my favourite places, most people just see the tourist part, but the whole of the Khan is massive, the tent makers area, where they have amazing appliqué panels from a simple cushion cover to a massive wall hanging, these days though no tents, then there is the jewellery area, the locals area and of course the tourist area. If you buy from the shops in this area you have to remember that the bargaining is part of the fun, they expect you to knock the price down a little.
Then there are the cafes and the Naguib Mahfouz restaurant where the play Egyptian music in the evenings. One of my favourite cafes is the Oum Kulthum, named after the very famous singer. When in Egypt you will often hear her on the radio.

Today I would like to tell you about wadi Al Hitan, in the Fayoum area. Egypt is well known for its ancient history but these museums take you back even further. There is a museum with loads of interesting information, a cafe, because the site is so big, you will need a coffee spot, and a collection of fossilised remains in the outside museum. Hello I would like to introduce myself to you, I am Lorna from Travel Tailors.
My wonderful job is sharing Egypt with you either here on Facebook or in Egypt if you come on one of our holidays.
Earlier this year I went to the Grand Egyptian Museum, GEM in Giza with some lovely people. It is not fully open yet, but there is some wonderful statuary there on some sweeping stairs and tour guides in many languages available to give you a guided talk. We also went to a wonderful surround experience film about the beginning of time from the view of the ancient Egyptians through to Pharaoh Tutankhamen.
