East London Business Alliance

East London Business Alliance ELBA (East London Business Alliance) is a registered charity and membership organisation, based in east London.

ELBA has over 30 years of experience in enabling successful partnerships between business and the community in east London. Working as a broker for the last 20 years in East London helping to understand the community need we have established a number of robust programmes which we know work. Our core programmes are borough-specific programmes focused on Hackney, Newham and Tower Hamlets allowing ou

r members to target their support in these key areas. These boroughs face some of the toughest problems in the UK as a whole in terms of worklessness, poverty, health and education and yet they remain vibrant, passionate, inspiring boroughs to work in. Each borough team has a long established relationship with key agencies and communities in their particular area and this means we can support our member companies to target their support in these key areas of need. We call our borough programmes, Community Programmes because the most effective way that we bring in private sector support is through employee volunteering with many of our employee volunteers share their business skills to build the capacity of the local voluntary sector in a variety of ways. Aside from our core programmes we also have 3 other key flagship programmes which are Legacy 2020, Employment and One East London. These provide our members with the opportunities to focus on specific issues of interest that cut across the boroughs and beyond.

In February, we held a Just Turn Up Day for volunteers to lend a hand to a community project. Employees from 14 different companies joined SocietyLinks to plant bulbs in Swedenborg Gardens, increasing biodiversity in the park and creating a pleasant environment for local residents. Recently our Challenge Programme Manager, Ashley Rice, wrote an amazing piece surrounding the Virtual Food Drive he is leading for us!

"Through the Virtual Food Drive, ELBA has been able to support 14 different organisations with food orders... with almost £7000 being raised so far... The Virtual Food Drive has also been able to provide food for food banks, such as Hackney Food Bank where 57kg of food donated will provide 135 meals for local people in crisis."

ELBA has over 30 years of experience in enabling successful partnerships between business and the community in east London. ELBA understands the needs of east London’s communities and how companies can best channel their resources and influence to make an impact, play their part in regeneration and promote social mobility.

In the past year, ELBA helped place over 300 people into work in London through its award-winning Employment Works programme, delivered over 12,000 business volunteers into the community, and worked with nearly 200 local organisations in east London.
