Zinta Jaunitis is a London-based artist working across drawing and printmaking, using materials that embrace movement and chance to create story fragments and visual poems.

‘There Never Was’ is a series of monotypes created in quick succession, intuitively layering paint and marks to incorporate chance into the work. This approach lifts her out of the inevitability of the process, with this series specifically revealing a feeling of disillusionment. The energy of her creative process is evident in subtle details, such as slight misalignments and the presence of a fingerprint.

Mainly using old ornaments and the weighty, modular letterpress printing shapes, Cristian Zuzunaga’s visual narrative is deeply connected with architecture and the way cities are constructed.

For architectonic reasons, our urban environment is built using modular shapes—mainly squares and rectangles—forming grids and patterns. Cristian uses these motifs to explore themes of belonging and connection, examining uniqueness and the power of multiplicity through printing.

His research focuses on ancient cultures that used geometry to express their cosmovision. Specifically, he looks at the geometric patterns found in Roman mosaics, Inca, and Pre-Columbian textiles and ceramics, exploring their historical significance and contemporary relevance.

All these efforts aim to explore uniqueness and the power of multiplicity through analogue methods of printing. The result is an architecturally charged aesthetic.

NEW FOR 2025 | Artist Memberships

Woolwich Contemporary is lucky enough to have a unique platform for a growing community of artists that can provide opportunities, exposure, networking and professional development resources and events, as well as a free open call application in our new Artist Membership package.

From the friendships established in the studios, the artists who exhibit together in our Curated Hang, the affinity that grows around collecting a particular artist, or owning one of a certain edition, WCPF continues to reach new audiences and build new communities through our cultural impact and social initiatives which we are keen to develop through groups like our new Artist Members Network.

Happy Lantern Festival 🌟 🏮

Hammer Chen is a printmaking artist based in Shanghai and Bristol. Hammer’s work is informed by the idea of memory, travel, and arousing a nostalgic sense through cinematic imagery. She explores how to best echo the transformation from factual documentation to personal perception, through the manipulation of photography on a printmaking matrix. Her images are not only of a lived reality: they are imagined memories rebuilt from collective experiences.

‘The Light Collector’ was chosen by Cassandra Bowes as a Top Pick from the 2024 Curated Hang at WCPF.

Pushing the boundaries of print 💫

Did you catch Caroline Macdonald’s ‘DRIFT’ at WCPF24?

In Caroline’s large, printed, folded structures she combines images from antiquity with everyday modern materials to make digitally printed structures which seek to subtly reveal the hidden production systems we navigate. Digitally rendered fleshy tones suggest both artificial and natural processes.

Through the thin Japanese paper, you can see the stacked packaging, linking these digital bodies to man-made consumption. Whilst digital, these works are not digitally flawless or pristine which adds to their corporeal quality. Tension slides between the encounter with the scale of the work, proximity, and the precariousness of their structures.

26/01/2025

Julia Colmenares’ practice is informed by landscape, the imagination, and the emotive act of gestural mark-making – physical energy transferred from the body to the metal plate or canvas.

In her work, monoprinting translates the experience of nature into sensuous marks. She wipes away, scrawls and jabs, revealing an image from an inked steel plate. The technique’s time limitation encourages spontaneity and honesty in the mark making process.

‘Art does not just decorate. Art grounds, elevates and adds to the layered aesthetic that makes a room a pleasure to be in.’ - WCPF24 speaker Fiona McKenzie Johnston for  💫

Printmaking is a great introduction to collecting fine art and incorporating it into your living space. The nature of editioning (that is the creation of more than one ‘impression’) can make it a more affordable art form than oil or watercolour, for example. Moreover, the more accessible prices mean you have the flexibility to experiment with your tastes, discover artists, and learn about different techniques, all while building confidence as you curate your personal collection.

Pushing the boundaries of print 💫

Did you see Carol He’s installation ‘Catch a fleeting show’ at WCPF24?

RCA graduate Carol He’s work focuses on the digital landscape and the question: how can we reflect on human-technological relations?

Rapid changes in media create an environment where images and information are quickly produced and shared, leading to attention deficit disorder. What is the ‘overwhelm’ we experience when immersed in screens, and how does this increase our sense of loss and uncertainty? Can we interrupt the flow of media? Can intensive material engagement reshape our attention and slow down the acceleration?
