London Calling World School

London Calling World School . Hey Worldschoolers! My name is Jenny and I am a single parent to my wonderful son Baxter.

(1)

We are both born and bred Londoners, and have both lived here our entire lives! I am a freelance photographer and Baxter is 7 years old, we mostly follow an unschooling style here in London where we visit a ridiculous amount of galleries, museums, immersive art shows and more. He attends various groups across London a few days a week while I work so will join us for some, but not all of the event.

What's included in the event;
A 7 day itinerary - personalised to fit the group once I know more about ages/interests. Example's of locations we will visit are;
+ The Southbank - London's famous riverside walkway surrounded by iconic buildings, art installation pop ups and food trucks.
+ The Tate Modern/Tate Britain - both free to enter, both jam packed with art and kids activities. you can even pick up a free activity book here!
+ St James Park - frequented by parakeets, pelicans and more! A great spot for a picnic and one of the best playgrounds in central London.
+ The National Gallery - comes with a free mobile-based immersive adventure for kids that makes it WAY more fun ;)
+ The Natural History Museum - not only a jaw dropping building to look at but home to a collection of artefacts over the last 5 Billion years!!!
+ 120 Fenchurch street - it's like the sky garden without the ques! Seriously it's practically the same view but much less widely known and a great spot for viewing landmarks from above.
+ The Thames Beach - did you even know there was a beach by the Thames!!
+ Camden Market - check out the huge array of food, clothing and more available. Visit Cyberdog if you're feeling brave and if it all gets too much grab a snack and sit by the lock watching house boats pass up and down the canal. All events will be free/low cost in order to ensure accessibility for as many families as possible. Optional workshops - Art, Photography, Circus and Parkour are all currently in discussion! Attendees do not have to join the group every day and are welcome to do independant trips or team up with other travellers should they wish. When you register to join you will receive a welcome pack including further info on workshops, an accommodation guide, info on travel in the city and more but please feel free to ask questions in advance. NEWSFLASH

I am the host of London Calling as you know. I also freelance for the amazing World School Pop Up Hub as a host.

For various reasons we have decided to combine forces and this event will now be managed by them - but hosted by myself. The reasons are many and mostly not very interesting so here is what you need to know;

1 - You will still get me and my son Baxter (when he's around) showing you some of our favourite spots in our home city of London.
2 - The dates are SLIGHTLY different - it will now be 1st to 7th September instead of 23rd to 29th.
3 - Registration is now via Worldschool Pop-Up Hub not myself.

That's it - any questions just hit reply and I'll get back to you,
Many thanks,

Jenny.

If you are considering coming along please join the Facebook group where we will discus travel in the city, accomodation, and yes - even the weather!

This knee height diorama is a great example of making content accessible to smaller visitors.

Free mini golf in Canary Warf.

I love the various splashes of colour Canary Warf periodically add to their predominately grey environment. This free mingolf course has only two weeks left but come winter the area will be lit up by the annual Winter Lights Festival.

So glad we got to visit before it gets taken away until next summer 😊

We made it to the with a motley crew of 6-8 year olds (and one eager 4 year old 😍) This museum is one of many that I either never heard of or dismissed as ‘not out thing’ but living here for MANY years you try everything once right and it’s actually got a lot more to offer than you’d think.

The kids held a real gold bar, worked together on puzzles made of GBP notes, cracked a safe, looked at how money is printed here and even used the black light to check for forgeries - of course we got to check some euro too because worldschooling 😍

Museum of the home is way off the tourist trail and offers a range of rooms designed to befit stages of British history. The earliest being somewhere in the 1600s.

The 80s room always proves popular with kids thanks to the fully operational SNES and Mario Kart on offer! For those of us that remember you’ll find VHS cassette tapes, cassette players and more!

Today I had the absolute pleasure of introducing some worldschooling families to a very important part of many Londoners childhoods; adventure playgrounds. Designed to support and encourage children’s natural instinct to play. Providing a range of loose parts, often sand and water, opportunities for risky play and much much more.

Some of the kids today held an impromptu fountain fishing session in Trafalgar Square fountains 😆 It was so fascinating to see all different currencies that had made it here - some familiar some totally new to us! Throwing them back in proved popular too!
