It's World Tourism Day—a moment to reflect on the powerful role tourism plays in our world and why coming together with local communities is so important.
In Mongolia, we’re very lucky to collaborate with local teams and herders who are not only incredibly skilled but have also welcomed us into their lives. It’s never just about work though—most of the time it’s about having a giggle, sharing stories, and just living/experiencing life together. There’s no "us and them," just all of us learning and growing side by side. Isn’t that how it should be?
On this year's retreat, our guest Jane sat down with one of the local herders Jagga (first picture) for a heartfelt chat. They spoke about the real challenges his community faces, particularly with how climate change is making life more difficult for nomadic people who rely on the land. Conversations like these remind us why it’s so important to not only support local communities in ways that truly matter, but to spend time with them; listening, exchanging and learning.
Tourism, when done with care, can have a far greater impact than we realise. Yes, there are economic benefits, but it's the human stories that stay with us.
Anyway, we love Mongolia (Can you tell? 😂 ) Swipe to see some moments from this year's retreat, and the wonderful humans that make the magic happen 💛
