Did you know the original Ebenezer Scrooge from A Christmas Carol came from Edinburgh? He lived over the Beehive Inn in the Grassmarket. Charles Dickens visited Edinburgh in 1841 and found his grave in Cannongate Kirkyard. The inscription said “Ebenezer Scrooge - a meal man” (meaning he earned his living from grains), but Dickens misread it as Ebenezer Scrooge - a MEAN man, and it inspired him to write about the mean, miser Scrooge in A Christmas Carol!
