This is why we love doing what we do here at Cosmos Yachting 🙌
We returned to Gocek this weekend after a wonderful sailing holiday; I just thought you’d appreciate some specific feedback on the facility/ place, the boat and people here at Gocek Village Marine for advising other clients.
Gocek: as a place to visit, terrific, similar in some ways to BVIs; nothing is very far, loads of bays to anchor in, but additionally lots of history, ruins etc to explore and dive around. It is quite a busy place, even in September, but we always found somewhere to moor-up/ anchor. Sailing conditions while we were here were predictable, light air in the morning then about 10-15knots from lunchtime until about 5. Ideal! The town of Gocek is a bit of a yachting Mecca and provides it all from beachfront restaurants to chandleries, bars etc. The supermarkets are all geared up for boat delivery so you just shop and leave your berth number for free delivery.
I would thoroughly recommend this area to anyone that’s enjoyed Greece or indeed the Caribbean; the technical challenge is a bit more than the Ionian, but only because you need to be able to be able to do everything from mooring to a buoy, anchoring and putting long lines ashore. The wind does continue to blow into the evening a bit sometimes so being really happy with anchoring technique is more important than say in the Ionian where a lot of people get away with just throwing the hook over the front and laying it on the seabed more in hope than confidence!
We sailed as far as Ekincik to the NW (lovely marina, med moored, good restaurant and basic food store on the front) and to Gemiler Adasi to the SW (full of tripper boats in the day), but a great set of Lycian ruins on St Nicholas Island, some submerged to explore with mask and snorkel, but there are many remains of a community from 7th Century there too - worth the visit.
There is a friendly and not pushy service of boat boys around the bays who provide fresh pastries, vegetables and sometimes fish. All good value with the £/ Lira exchange rate so good for UK visitors.
The Boat: new this year and at the end of it's first season, it was in first class condition; really impressed. Good all-round performance too which is not always the case on charter boats (sails still in quite new condition I guess - not worked too hard here). Everything worked as it should do anyway. The impression that I got from seeing the other boats come and go was of a well run operation with boats in good condition.
Staff in the marina: First class team of people; can’t think we’ve ever had such great service on the dock in the years we’ve been chartering with you. Tolga the Marina manager was excellent, but everyone here was cheerful, competent and always willing to help. We had a minor issue on the fuel pontoon with the fuel cap going in the water, but they gave us another so we could out for last day’s sailing, and just put a diver in and fetched dropped one, no charge. Check out of the boat and check in, relaxed and straightforward; really good brief on everything from Tolga at the beginning, and at the end of the charter a great restaurant recommendation!
Thanks for everything that you and the team at Cosmos did to get the charter arranged.
