Seyi and I were introduced on Valentine’s Day, and while I thought this would be cliché, he sounded great, and I thought we could end up as friends.

Our first conversation surprised me; we spoke for hours, and it felt like the easiest thing to do. We live in different states, so we spoke on the phone every day for months before having our first date.

I was getting ready and feeling nervous about meeting him in person. I wasn’t sure if our feelings and connection over the phone would translate in person.

We went out for dinner, and I remember the nervousness disappearing once we started talking.

Korede and I had been following each other for a while and engaged each other on Twitter often. He decided to send me a message in April 2022 after finding out that we attended the same church.

We didn’t see for a month after we first texted each other, and when we eventually met in church, it seemed like we’d been friends for years. He was very warm and receptive, I saw how he talked to and treated his friends and it was beautiful to witness.

After a while, we started having longer and deeper conversations which made us realize that our values aligned. I was in a place where I wanted the real thing and was tired of being with people who didn’t meet up to what I wanted in a future partner, so when Korede came around, and after a while feelings started flying around, I was worried about letting my feelings get the best of me.

We decided to take it slow, I spoke to people I knew who knew him and asked questions about him, we also spent time praying about each other and I decided to read a book titled “Dating intelligently” in order to make an informed decision.

Also, he measured up and exceeded some of the expectations I had about a relationship and the character of a life partner and I just knew there was something more that could come out of our friendship. I knew I was in for a ride when we spent four hours talking on the phone, I’d never been on the phone for that long before and the amazing thing was that we didn’t run out of what to talk about.

We eventually started dating in September 2022 and got engaged in February, 2024 and it’s been a beautiful ride right from the moment we first had that conversation in April, I feel loved every single day and I’m so thankful for him.

With a gentle push from a dear friend, the universe brought together two kindred spirits with an insatiable zest for life in a serendipitous twist.

We shared passions for food, and travel, and looking fabulous made our connection inevitable. It all began with a conversation that flowed effortlessly into the starlit night in the Hard Rock Cafe parking lot.

Hours slipped away as we discussed art, music, the world, and the intricacies of the human condition. It felt like fate had arranged a gourmet “Love at First Strategy Session” just for us.
