Roman London
#Roman London's Amphitheater under Guildhall.
AD 43 the island of Britain was invaded by the Romans. By AD 47 the Romans were laying out a new settlement, Londinium, in the area now occupied by the City of London. One of the results of occupation was the introduction of Roman elements of culture and society. One such element was the building of amphitheatres for public entertainment, and their use for animal fights, gladiatorial combats and the execution of criminals.

THE LADY CHAPEL
WHERE BENJAMIN FRANKLIN
LEARNED HIS TRADE
During the Reformation the Lady Chapel was hived off from the Church and made into commercial premises. During the 18th century this was a printer's workshop and it was here, in 1725, that Benjamin Franklin was employed while living round the corner on Little Britain.
During his time as an apprentice here, Franklin worked on the second edition of William Wollaston's Religion of Nature and wrote his A Dissertation on Liberty and Necessity, Pleasure and Pain.
