Congratulations to Ben Melham who has officially achieved a new Guinness World Record for visiting the most museums in 24 hours.

Ben visited an unprecedented 42 museums in and around central London, smashing the previous record of 33 museums visited in a single day. During his attempt he visited four museums in the City of London:
✨ London Mithraeum
✨The Bank of England Museum
✨The Guildhall Art Gallery
✨The Barbican Art Gallery

How many museums have you ever visited in a 24-hour period?

From Roman Londinium to today’s iconic skyline, the City of London has transformed countless times. One of the most iconic examples? St. Paul’s Cathedral

There is evidence to suggest that the first church or cathedral built on the site of St Paul’s can be dated back to the year 604 during Saxon rule! The medieval “Old St. Paul’s,” which stood on this site between 1087 to 1314, was once one of the longest and tallest churches in the world. Fascinatingly, its towering spire was lost in 1561 after a lightning strike and both Catholics and Protestants of the day claimed divine judgment!

During the Great Fire of London in 1666, Old St. Paul’s was destroyed, and in 1668 Sir Christopher Wren was given authority to redesign and rebuild the cathedral in the now iconic English Baroque style. Work on St Paul’s Cathedral was declared complete by Parliament on Christmas Day in 1711.

Thank you to The London Archives for this insight into the history of the City of London. All of the historic visuals in this video are originals from their extensive collection.

We are back with some fascinating City of London street names.

Have you ever walked down Knightrider Street, near St Paul's Cathedral, and wondered where its name came from?

Its name is first recorded in 1322 as Knyghtridestrete and historian John Stow suggested it was named after knights riding through the street on their way to joust at Smithfield! However, some believe the name originally referred to "Rider Street," as the early Middle English term "rider" was synonymous with "knight."
