From the Dumfries statue of Scotland's Bard (complete with his beloved border collie 'Luath') HAPPY BURNS NIGHT to in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

A celebratory night of Haggis, H***h, Highland reels and the reciting of Burns' lyrics - our favourite is probably the anthemic 'Scots Wha Hae' - a poetic adaptation of Robert the Bruce’s speech before the Battle of Bannockburn.

Rousing stuff, accompanied by a wee dram or six of Scottish whisky!

A boozy Christmas tree, outside Gordon's, London's oldest wine bar established in 1890 - step into its atmospheric subterranean rooms, and this historic place feels older still.

Author of 66 detective novels, Agatha Christie was born of this day in 1890 in Torquay.

📍The Agatha Christie Memorial, at the intersection of Cranbourn St and Great Newport Street, near London's Covent Garden.

Here are some killer facts about this queen of crime:

✔️ She had her coming out party in a hotel in Egypt ('Death on the River Nile')

✔️ During WWI she volunteered with the Red Cross & trained as a pharmacist (at least 28 of Christie's novels feature poisonings)

✔️ She learned to surf in Honolulu ('The Man in the Brown Suit')

✔️ Her first husband, Archie, was a golfer who had an affair (and later married) a much younger woman who was also a keen golfer ('The Murder on the Links')

✔️ Her second husband was an archaeologist and she helped him with his digs, one of which was in Mesopotamia ('Murder in Mesopotamia')
.. you can see the thread. In the words of Mark Twain "Write what you know" may be apt for Christie, though we have yet to discover a Christie novel that deals with her run-ins with the tax-man in the UK & US - 'Death by Tax' perhaps?! 😊
