Our story

The Teleport was born out of a love for travel and technology.

Virtual reality (VR) technology has many useful implications such as to provide entertainment (games, stimulations) and as an educational tool (trainings, machine operation) without having to be physically present. For example, huge gaming companies such as Sony have been releasing VR games to accompany their flagship product the PS4, bringing the excitement of gaming to a whole new level. Gamers can now put on the headset and be transported to a whole new “reality” where they can complete quests and connect with other virtual players all over the world.

For us, the true excitement lies in the untapped potential of VR within the travel and tourism industry.

Have you ever wanted to travel to the USA but was hesitant due to the huge price tag? Imagine being able to travel virtually - to get a “preview” of the hotel, theme park, or the beach without even spending a penny. Would this potentially help with your research? Or if you need new ideas for your next staycation, could the Teleport help inspire you? Are you a tourist who wants to travel out of London but don’t know where?

The Teleport is a virtual reality “booth”, repurposed from the red phone boxes that used to populate the streets in the UK. The phone function is replaced with a VR headset, is free to use and self serviceable.

We believe that innovative technology such as VR should be accessible to all, not only to those that can afford it.

We are working very hard to ensure that the Teleport stays free for the public. Our headset is nested within a grade 2 listed British phone box, lovingly restored to its original condition.

By utilising the phone boxes, we are on a mission to save them from vandalism and disuse - giving them a new lease of life with a unique mix of innovation cm tradition.
