🌞 Discover the Summer Secrets of Asia with TransIndus! 🌏

As summer approaches, monsoon rains engulf much of Asia, making travel to the better-known parts problematic. However, some hidden pockets of the region come into their own, adding a whole new dimension of glorious possibilities that most travellers may not have considered, particularly the adventurers and wildlife enthusiasts among you. Here are some of our favourites:

🌟 Borneo: 🌿 Trek through ancient jungles, encounter orangutans, and marvel at the limestone pinnacles of Gunung Mulu. Did you know? Borneo is home to one of the world’s oldest rainforests, estimated to be around 140 million years old! 🦧

🌟 Tibet: 🏔️ Experience the unique Buddhist culture and stunning Himalayan views. The months of April to May and September to October are ideal for exploring this remote and surreal land. Fun fact: Tibet is often called the “Roof of the World” because it has an average elevation of over 4,500 metres! 🏔️

🌟 Indonesia: 🏝️ Beyond the beaches, discover ancient temples, vibrant coral reefs, and the majestic Komodo Dragons. Perfect for family adventures and cultural experiences. Did you know? Indonesia is made up of over 17,000 islands, making it the largest archipelago in the world! 🐉

🌟 Kyrgyzstan: 🏞️ Visit during the Shyrdak Festival to witness the rich nomadic heritage and breathtaking landscapes of the Tianshan Mountains. A journey through time and tradition. Interesting tidbit: The Shyrdak Festival celebrates the intricate art of traditional felt carpets, known as shyrdaks, which are woven through the fierce winter months. 🏔️

🌿✨ Discover the White-throated Kingfisher in Kerala! ✨🌿

What animal inspires you to travel?

Meet the stunning White-throated Kingfisher, a vibrant gem of Kerala’s rich biodiversity. With its striking blue wings, bright red beak, and distinctive white throat, this bird is a true spectacle of nature. 🐦💙

Habitat: Found near water bodies like rivers, lakes, and coastal regions, the White-throated Kingfisher is a common sight in Kerala’s lush landscapes. They often perch on branches or wires, scanning the water for prey. 🌊🌳

Diet: This kingfisher is not just a pretty face. It’s an expert hunter, diving with precision to catch fish, insects, amphibians, and even small reptiles. Their diet is quite varied, making them adaptable to different environments. 🐟🦎

Behaviour: Known for their loud, cackling call, White-throated Kingfishers are quite vocal, especially during the breeding season. Their calls can be heard echoing through the forests and backwaters of Kerala. 🌳🔊

Breeding: These birds are cavity nesters, often using tree holes or even burrows in riverbanks to lay their eggs. They are known to be fiercely territorial during the breeding season, defending their nests from intruders. 🪺

Conservation Status: The White-throated Kingfisher is currently listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, thanks to its wide distribution and stable population. However, habitat destruction and pollution remain threats to their environment. 🌍

Experiencing the spiritual heart of Varanasi’s Ganga Aarti

In the heart of Varanasi, one of India’s most ancient and revered cities, the evening Ganga Aarti is a spectacle that transcends the ordinary. As dusk settles over the sacred River Ganges, the ghats are illuminated by the flickering flames of the fire puja, a ritual that has captivated the hearts of devotees and travelers alike.

The Ganga Aarti is more than a ritual, it is a profound expression of devotion and reverence. They carry out a performance, according to instructions of the priests dressed in the garb of the elderly saffron, that involves the rhythmical swaying of coloured brass lamps, the pleasing sound of the conch shell and the effect of the song of holy mantras. The heavy smell of incense combined with the sweet sounds of the chimes makes an entirely meditative atmosphere.

Looking at this ritual being performed at the Dashashwamedh Ghat or even while one is paddling down the water in a boat, is a unique feel. Light and darkness, emotional callings and a bodily manifestation of spirituality produce an experience, which is humbling but also inspiring

If you want to visit Varanasi, check out the tour with Assam Bengal Navigation, the original cruise operator on the Brahmaputra and Ganges Rivers since 2003.

Sail aboard the boutique ABN Rajmahal, featuring 22 cabins with panoramic views. Explore remote villages, historic temples, and vibrant cities.

This summer, join our special route from Patna to Varanasi, available on select dates in September. Experience the magic and spirituality of the Ganges.
