Why do we ride? Theft hurts. Not to us.

Simply put, it makes us feel awesome! Life on two wheels has many benefits: adrenaline, joy, peace, pleasure, smiles, laughter, camaraderie and many, many more. There are, admittedly, a few drawbacks. Other than injury, the worst is theft. (In fact, theft hurts a lot.) While winding our way through the backroads of France, en route to a little place we love along the sea in Catalonia, we stopped o

vernight north of Toulouse. We thought (perhaps, hoped) our bike would be safe on the well-lit street just out front of where we stayed. We were wrong. With our bags packed and ready to ride the next morning, we went outside to discover our beloved friend was gone. The Gendarmes explained she had most likely been stolen to be bartered-off abroad or, even worse, stripped for parts. “It happens all the time all over Europe,” they casually said. “You should have parked somewhere secure.”

The “peace, pleasure and smiles” of riding were instantly replaced by fear, anger and anxiety. (I literally vomited.) Stranded in a foreign country, we began the messy work of police reports and fighting with our insurance company back home. It was an extremely unpleasant experience. We resolved to never let it happen again. Not to anybody. Bicycle and Motorcycle theft is on the increase worldwide but more so within Europe. Though the problem has always existed, there has been a noticeable spike over the last decade—and not just in cities and suburbs. The problem has radiated out to the rural communities, as well. The problem is clear. Thankfully, so is the solution: Ride and Rest. Welcome to the most beautiful and unknown part of Portugal called Centro. We have a since 2016 and all our guests enjoy the silence, the beauty of our gardens and rooms, the swimming pool and the company of our pets. Come and discover our Bed and Breakfast only a couple of minutes by car from the lake and dam at Castelo de Bode in central Portugal, set in a large 5800m2 big garden with many trees and a large swimming pool, a relax corner under the trees, an open kitchen and breakfast lounge (dinner upon request).

Após o nosso primeiro encontro Portugal, a equipa RideandRest Portugal rumou à Casa do Vale - Alverangel uma bonita e bem cuidada propriedade de uma família belga, onde fomos recebidos pelo simpático Jan que prontamente nos recomendou um restaurante a cerca de 7 km onde provámos um belo leitão no . De volta à Casa do Vale encontrámos um sossego e um céu estrelado bem visível graças ao sistema de iluminação progressiva que ladeia os acessos às áreas comuns.
Pela manhã conhecemos os outros dois elementos desta família, a Nicole e o Louis que nos serviram um pequeno almoço recheado de coisas boas, com especial nota para os doces caseiros.

What a fantastic place to stop and stay at, use as a base to explore the local area, the and the

Riverbank Bed and Breakfast has recently undergone a full and thorough renovation. It is a former public house which has retained a bar for the exclusive use of guests (and their friends or family). We are located halfway between Builth Wells and Llandovery on the A483 - a popular road for , with sweeping bends, good tarmac and stunning views. We are also at the heart of an area popular with , and our town hosts the annual Real Ale Wobble event. Al our rooms are en suite, and we offer secure overnight storage and pressure washer for and .

The owners are experienced themselves so are able to provide advice on circular scenic routes which take in mountains, reservoirs, dams, waterfalls, caves and amazing views. We have two king-size rooms and three doubles, all with freshly refurbished en-suite shower or bath rooms. Three of our rooms have river views. We are a minutes walk of the town's pubs.
We have a guest bar lounge, stocked with popular brands as well as Welsh ales, ciders and spirits and you can enjoy your drinks on our outdoor terrace. A cooked breakfast, cereals, yoghurts and juices are included in the room rate.

So we are in today with this iconic place, with a fantastic reputation for and their love of all things Moto Guzzi, here is

Fortified French Retreat is an 11th century , ground and private event facility. Two ensuite rooms with king size beds (€80.00 including breakfast), camper van/caravan facilities including sanitation block and EHU availability, tent camping also. 10 berth sharing adjacent sanitation block with campers. Evening meals, snacks, drinks and breakfast all available. Plunge pool, covered terrace, outdoor terraces with built in BBQ’s. Happy Sunday everyone!

No surprises but we venture back to and the highlighting this excellent event Rand'Auvergne and our two that are right slap bang in amongst it! Today we swap the places around in order, ensuring both get a fair crack, however we are assured that Charles and Robert are best of mates so not an issue for them.

At this moment in time I am committed to taking part in the The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride mid May, and have bought and fettled a bike for the purpose. However... next year i just might dust off my off road/enduro skills to take part in this absolute cracker, it'll probably be emotional but FUN, that is the word! I like FUN, especially on . Just need to convince the Mrs, althoiugh with the promise of staying at both Charles's awesome place La Vaisse and then Robert's cracker accommodation La Maison du Chevalier , it's a done deal! I have ridden in this area on many occasions but on road, the prospect of enduro is proper floating my little bath boat at the moment.

Happy Sunday everyone! No surprises but we venture back to #france and the #livradoisforez #livradoisforeznationalpark highlighting this excellent event Rand'Auvergne and our two #bikefriendly #bikerfriendly #motorcyclefriendlyhotels that are right slap bang in amongst it! Today we swap the places around in order, ensuring both get a fair crack, however we are assured that Charles and Robert are best of mates so not an issue for them. At this moment in time I am committed to taking part in the The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride mid May, and have bought and fettled a bike for the purpose. However... next year i just might dust off my off road/enduro skills to take part in this absolute cracker, it'll probably be emotional but FUN, that is the word! I like FUN, especially on #twowheels . Just need to convince the Mrs, althoiugh with the promise of staying at both Charles's awesome #bikelife place La Vaisse #Ambert and then Robert's cracker #bikerlifestyle accommodation La Maison du Chevalier #marat , it's a done deal! I have ridden in this area on many occasions but on road, the prospect of enduro is proper floating my little bath boat at the moment. Why do we ride?

Simply put, it makes us feel awesome!

Life on two wheels has many benefits: adrenaline, joy, peace, pleasure, smiles, laughter, camaraderie and many, many more.

There are, admittedly, a few drawbacks. Other than injury, the worst is theft. Theft hurts. (In fact, theft hurts a lot.)

While winding our way through the backroads of France, en route to a little place we love along the sea in Catalonia, we stopped overnight north of Toulouse. We thought (perhaps, hoped) our bike would be safe on the well-lit street just out front of where we stayed. We were wrong. With our bags packed and ready to ride the next morning, we went outside to discover our beloved friend was gone. The Gendarmes explained she had most likely been stolen to be bartered-off abroad or, even worse, stripped for parts. “It happens all the time all over Europe,” they casually said. “You should have parked somewhere secure.”

The “peace, pleasure and smiles” of riding were instantly replaced by fear, anger and anxiety. (I literally vomited.) Stranded in a foreign country, we began the messy work of police reports and fighting with our insurance company back home. It was an extremely unpleasant experience. We resolved to never let it happen again. Not to us. Not to anybody.

Bicycle and Motorcycle theft is on the increase worldwide but more so within Europe. Though the problem has always existed, there has been a noticeable spike over the last decade—and not just in cities and suburbs. The problem has radiated out to the rural communities, as well.

The problem is clear. Thankfully, so is the solution: Ride and Rest.
