We have our fourth Traverse of The National Park Expedition at the end of February and I'm already getting excited...
It's a trip like no other... A week dragging sleds and camping as we negotiate whatever the weather gods throw at us!

Here's a to previous years epics... Deep snow, river crossings, and winter storms. Every trip is different and every trip is as exciting as the last... A trip not for the faint-hearted

𝗪𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗪𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆
Have you ever hiked in a whiteout? The sky blends with the ground. A ground in which you have security. A firm footing. Safety.

The whiteout offers nothing for the sense that we rely on most in the mountains - sight!
Up, down, forward, back, left, right... Everything is white!

Social media is full of blue sky days in the winter mountains and those are the days to savour, but the realism is that the weather can move in at any time... Hiking in a whiteout, to the uninitiated, is one of the most dangerous things to do in winter. Stay Safe out there!

Our second trip of the weekend was scheduled to be on but cancellations meant Jill was on her own, so, with a private guide, Jill elected to do something a little different!

Over to Stob Ban for the first day of adventure, then a scramble on Beinn a'Chaorainn on day 2.

What an incredible adventure in Snowdonia at the weekend!
Soooo much snow ⛄️
And an amazing team, most of which had never hiked in winter conditions before, that bonded immediately and took it all in their stride…

Yes, hiking in the mountains in winter is colder than summer (a question I get asked a lot 🤷‍♂️), but it's still my favourite season to explore the UK hills...

Winter hiking isn’t just a trek; it’s an experience like no other. ❄️✨ Imagine peaceful trails blanketed in snow, crystal-clear views from mountaintops, and the serene hush of nature that only winter can bring. 🌲🤍

No bugs, no summer crowds—just you, the crisp air, and the breathtaking beauty of snowy peaks. 🥾❄️ (and - ahem - the occasional 🌫)

And with a low sun; the light, the sunsets and sunrises are like no other season 😳🌄
