On Monday, 18th September, at 10 a.m. we'll be hosting a talk with Giles Rhys- Jones, the CMO of what3words.
what3words is an app that has divided the globe into 57 trillion 3m by 3m squares and labelled each area with just three words. It is the most accurate and memorable way to find locations.
Since its inception, it has won a myriad of awards.
Most recently Fast Company awarded What3Words the Social Good design award.
Mongolia and Nigeria have changed all their addresses to What3Words to ensure that communities in the most far flung parts can be connected. Tanzania has looked into customising the system to make it easier to deliver textbooks to secondary schools and for identifying broken water pumps around the country.
What3Words has also teamed up with travel company tripwolf - hungry for travel, one of the world’s leading travel apps, providing over 10 million people worldwide with recommendations, reviews and top tips through 600 carefully researched city guides has adopted 3 word addresses to help its users find all the great places listed in its guides, first time, every time.
On Monday, I'll be speaking with Giles on ways that the app can benefit the design and craft industries. The craft industry in particular , relishes in story's of obscure origins and distant sources of inspiration. Does What3Words threaten the mysticism of the story, or will it help define its spirit?
