A whisker away from completion on this project in The copper-clad window reveals are looking fabulous against the charred Larch timber cladding and vertical fins. Just waiting for the retractable roof for the roof terrace and some snagging, and then our amazing client can move into their new home!

Following positive pre-application advice from Lewisham council we have developed this design proposal for the redevelopment of this prominent corner site on Deptford High Street. The site straddles 2 different character areas – both within the Deptford High Street and St. Paul’s Church Conservation Area. The proposal draws on the historical pattern of development and materiality found in these areas and provides a nuanced response through distinct forms of varying height, scale and surface materials. The massing reduces in scale to retain primacy of the existing frontage building, with an open service yard to the rear which is typical of the urban context. The facades will be finished with contrasting textured brickwork with accents of glazed bottle green brick. A living wall provides a transitional zone between the existing and new architecture, while extensive bio-diverse planted roofs combine to enhance the natural and local environment. The development will provide 5 new flats and 2 commercial units, while the existing pharmacy (a former bank) will be retained fronting Deptford High Street.

Great to visit this project recently to do some snagging. The exposed Ash roof joists cast some beautiful shadows internally as well as providing solar shading. The pallet of natural materials provides a soft and warm aesthetic. We're looking forward to sharing professional photos soon.
