"Directing is not a process of imposing one's wilful reading on the play so much as one of gardening: encouraging certain elements to bloom and prosper while sometimes needing to prune and constrain others in the process." –Rupert Goold 🌱
The 14th Annual Notre Dame London Shakespeare Lecture was delivered by Rupert Goold (CBE). Goold, who is for known his work as the Artistic Director of the Almeida Theatre and two-time Olivier Award-winning director of work for stage and screen, is highly regarded for his directorial reinvention of Shakespeare's greatest works. He delivered insights into his process as a director and devotee of Shakespeare in his 2025 lecture ‘Shakespeare’s scenes—the good, the bad and the ugly’.
