PRODUCT EARTH MYCO: Common puffball mushrooms, scientifically known as Lycoperdon perlatum, are widely distributed across North America and Europe 🌍
These mushrooms are easily recognisable by their round, pear-shaped fruiting bodies, which can reach sizes of up to 10 centimetres in diameter 🍄
Unlike many other mushrooms, puffballs lack a distinct cap and instead release their spores through a small opening called a pore at the top of the fruiting body. When mature, they release clouds of spores resembling smoke or “puffballs,” hence their name.
They are often found in meadows, fields, and woodlands, and play a crucial role in forest ecosystems as decomposers, breaking down organic matter and recycling nutrients back into the soil 🌿

MID-WEEK MYCO: Stump Puffballs are a type of fungus commonly found growing on dead or decaying wood. They are easily recognizable by their round, white or greyish-brown fruiting bodies that resemble small balls or puffs 🍄
Instead of relying on wind or insects to disperse their spores, these mushrooms use raindrops to forcefully eject their spores out of the fruiting body and into the surrounding environment.
Stump Puffballs play an important role in the ecosystem as decomposers. They break down dead wood and other organic matter, releasing nutrients back into the soil and helping to support the growth of other plants and fungi 🌱
