A warm, woolley welcome to Aster, the newly arrived resident at 'Sunflowers'. He looks a bit sheepish, but he'll soon get into the swing of his new job - keeping the main bedroom door open so it doesn't slam when the door to the back garden is opened. It's weighty work!

Hurrah! First sunflower has come out today. Very late - but will be there to greet our late summer/early autumn visitors. We tried 'Titans' this year so the flowers should end up huge and this one is already at the top of its eight foot cane. Hopefully they'll all be open for our guests arriving next week.

Just taken a new, up to date photo of Sunflowers Barn.
We're enjoying meeting visitors from Netherlands at the moment, next week from Germany and then Italy.
Gorgeous weather now with at least five more days of sunshine on the way. Hurrah!
We still have availability for the bank holiday week - August 24th to 31st - if you fancy a late summer break.

. . . . and the picnic table is an ideal spot for watching the antics of the sheep in the field just the other side of the track. They love rubbing themselves on the trees!
The summer hols are nearly fully booked but we still have availability between now and the 27th July - if you fancy a last minute break in our lovely countryside.

Great to see our recent visitors spending so much time on our new(ish) picnic table in Sunflowers' front garden - using it as a dining table or just sitting there enjoying the gorgeous view and the peace and quiet.
Aranya put the table together for me at the end of last summer but the autumn weather wasn't good enough for it to get much use. One great thing about it is that it has fold-up seats so they stay dry enough for sitting on - particularly if there's an early morning dew.

So, if you fancy a few days' escape to the the peace and quiet of the glorious Cornish countryside - with woodland and coastal walks and beautiful beaches nearby - then come and visit us.

Easter weekend (29th March to 1st April): £450 - for up to 5 people.
or 8 nights for just £800 (Fri 29th March to Sat 6th April).

Spring is busting out in all directions. The lambs up the lane are getting bigger (but still very cute), the first blossom has just emerged on our plum tree and we've more rhubarb than we can possibly eat!

Hurrah! Just had a new stair carpet fitted. The old stripy one was too garish and dark and the new one is kinder on the eye and lightens up the stairwell - as well as being nice and soft underfoot.

We went to St. Nectan's Keive yesterday - a beautiful glen & waterfall. Gorgeous woodland, great cafe and a nature walk with interesting information boards, fluffy chickens and peacocks - and a chance to paddle right up to the foot of an amazing waterfall.

Just over an hour's drive from here but well worth it for a fantastic day out - particularly when combined with a visit to nearby Tintagel.

Happy Easter to everyone!
We're enjoying more lambs just up the lane and our young plum tree in gorgeous blossom.
We love having families here in the school holidays but couples are very welcome at other times. We're currently offering a 25% discount for couples staying before the end of June.

If you've been watching the TV series 'Beyond Paradise' you may have realized that all the harbour shots and many of the town shots were in fact filmed in Looe. The characters may have talked about 'Shipton Abbott' (the fictional town where the series is based) being in Devon but Looe is very much in Cornwall and just 4 miles down the road from us.
We've been watching with interest and enjoying seeing familiar spots - e.g. 'we've sat on that bench!'
Great news that they're doing a second series. Does this mean that Looe will become as popular as 'Doc Martin' made Port Isaac?

While I'm posting, here are the new curtains I've just put up as well. The ones I inherited there were rather flimsy and dark purple so it made the double room feel gloomy but not warm. These were a bit of a fiddle to take up to the right length but I'm much happier with them.
Two bookings for August already! I'm looking forward to a good summer. 🙂 😎 🏖 🏊‍♂️ 🚣‍♀️ 🤞

Just bought a new winter duvet for the king size bed in the double bedroom - a 'Spundown' - so irresistibly soft, warm and snuggly that I'm thinking of getting one for us too.
I also got lightweight 4.5 tog Spundowns for all the beds in Sunflowers - so visitors can stay comfy but not too hot in a summer heatwave.
So you're all kitted out now for some good nights' sleep whatever the British weather throws at us!

Just had an electric heated towel rail fitted in Sunflowers' main bathroom - so visitors can enjoy a warm towel without having to turn up the central heating - with the added benefit of free electricity on a sunny day, thanks to our solar panels and battery.
Last year 70% of the electricity for both our barn and Sunflowers was generated on site.
Yesterday I rushed out to get a photo of a fantastic rainbow (getting pretty wet in the process!). You can see the panels on our home barn. The gate on the right leads into Sunflowers' top garden (you have to click on the photo to see it).

It's that time of year for lots of activity in the garden. We've just put up a pergola and created two small wildlife ponds - more steps on our way to creating what we hope will be a magical garden here.
The ponds should be easier for the frogs and toads to get in and out of than our big rectangular fish-pond. Such fun watching this year's tadpoles develop!

Here are some pics of our recent 5.6 mile walk round the Rame Peninsula on a glorious sunny and windless winter's day. We met wild ponies but saw no people at all till we reached St. Michael's chapel. First few pics are of Queen Adelaide's Grotto.

About Sunflowers

Sunflowers Barn was formerly a Duchy of Cornwall barn built over 200 years ago on the west of the Seaton Valley in South East Cornwall.

The Barn can easily sleep 5 (and a baby) in its 3 bedrooms. A lightweight full-size single divan bed can be added to the double bedroom for a young child who still prefers to share with parents or for a group of 5 single people – or added to the single bedroom for a group of 6 people.

The front door leads into a large beamed living area with an open view across unspoilt countryside. Outside is a picnic table where you can sit and enjoy this same view. This room has comfortable leather settees, TV/DVD player and music centre at one end and a well-equipped kitchen (installed in 2015) and dining area at the other. Also on the ground floor are the large family bathroom and twin bedroom.

On the first floor is the master bedroom with a king-size bed, en-suite with shower and a door opening onto an upper level patio with outside furniture and a lawned garden. There is also a spacious single bedroom on the upper floor and parking space for 2 cars outside.
