Thank you to Muriel from the USA for this wonderful review from your walk from St.Ives to Mousehole back in May this year, the photos of the turquoise sea are just magnificent!

"Two of us walked happily and securely from St Ives to Mousehole, self-guided yet with the re-assurance that Encounter Walking was with us along the way. The itinerary document included every bit of needed information - from highlights along the Path to logistics. The inns were very comfortable and perfectly located right off/on the Path; the innkeepers were most welcoming and prescient. Every morning we left our lodgings restored after a good night sleep and a hearty breakfast. Viv at The Field House also prepared the most scrumptious dinner just for the two of us. And someone in Mousehole told us the ‘real’ story behind the town’s name. Thank you for everything. We will be in touch soon for another trip."

It’s Obby Oss Day in Padstow and the sun is shining!
The ‘Obby ‘Oss festival is a folk custom that takes place each 1st of May in Padstow, a coastal town in North Cornwall. It involves two separate processions making their way around the town, each containing an eponymous hobby horse known as the ‘Obby ‘Oss. The festival starts at midnight on the 30th of April when townspeople gather outside the Golden Lion Inn to sing the “Night Song”. By morning, the town has been dressed with greenery and flowers placed around the maypole. The excitement begins with the appearance of one of the ‘Obby ‘Osses. Male dancers cavort through the town dressed as one of two ‘Obby ‘Osses, the “Old” and the “Blue Ribbon” or “Methodist” ‘Obby ‘Osses; as the name suggests, they are stylised depictions of horses. Prodded on by assistants known as “Teasers”, each wears a mask and black frame-hung cape under which they try to catch young maidens as they pass through the town. Throughout the day, the two parades, led by the Teaser in his top hat and decorated stick, followed by a band of accordions and drums, then the ‘Oss and the Teaser, with a host of people, the “Mayers” – all singing the “Morning Song” – pass along the streets of the town. Finally, late in the evening, the two ‘osses meet, at the maypole, before returning to their respective stables where the crowd sings of the ‘Obby ‘Oss death, until its resurrection the following May Eve.

🌟🌟CUSTOMER REVIEW TUESDAY🌟🌟

Thank you to Suzanne Hawkes for this wonderful review of your walking holiday from Exmouth to Poole. What a great way to finish your walk 🥂 We look forward to helping you with your next adventure soon!

"We just wanted to express our gratitude to everyone at Encounter for organising our South West Coastal Path journey. We completed our journey yesterday at The Cove Portland, after covering the Portland to Poole section ourselves during our Dorset holidays.

We embarked on this journey with you in Minehead back in 2019, and despite the challenges posed by COVID-19 and unexpected personal circumstances, we finally achieved our goal after 4 1/2 years!

Encounter has not only helped us find wonderful places to stay but also went above and beyond by arranging transportation when needed, like last October when ferries were not running.

During the final leg of our journey, we had the pleasure of staying at some fantastic places including The Hotel Rivera in Sidmouth, The Townhouse in Lyme, The George in West Bay (with its adorable pub dog), and the beautiful Abbey House in Abbotsbury.

Thanks to Encounter's support, we've created memories that will last a lifetime. Here's to the next adventure! 🌟"

Happy St.Pirans Day! As most of our team are based in Cornwall, a day close to our hearts 😀

Saint Piran is associated with the early Christian Church in Cornwall and is credited with bringing Christianity to the region. Legend has it that he discovered tin while in Cornwall, and the symbol of a white cross on a black background, known as the Saint Piran's Flag, is said to represent the tin ore on a black hearth.
