Happy Father's Day, everyone! And this is Michael's first, as Dog Dad to the beautiful Nessie! She is the latest addition to the household at Coveyheugh and we are in LOVE. She is settling in well and already a clever wee monkey. Which means we are now always on the lookout for dog friendly venues and accommodations like Coveyheugh Lodge too! πŸ˜… Special shout out goes to .x for such a beautiful photo in the Berwickshire sunshine! 😁

It's always nice to have visitors at Coveyheugh, but these guys turned up without an invitation or anything! I was just dotting about doing some washing on a day off, looked out the window, and promptly had a heart attack that our sheep had got out. Thankfully, it was just the neighbour's! They were home and safe 5 mins later, quite happy after their wee trip. πŸ˜…πŸ‘

We've had a week of ups and downs here at Coveyheugh, with updates to follow shortly. One of the ups however, was we finished shearing all our sheep and giving them their treatments against flystrike and worms. (Glamorous I know... πŸ˜…) Whilst they were all penned in with us in the sheepshed, this little girl decided to get a bit of peace and quiet from the big boys and girls in the perfect sunny spot! πŸ˜β˜€οΈ

Another lovely weekend and we've taken advantage of it to spend some time working in the garden. While I was wheelbarrowing about the place, I stopped to have a good look at the beautiful peonies in the sunshine. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday!

Well WHAT a weekend! An absolute scorcher, and a light show! It's always been something we wanted to see, and to see it from our own home was something else entirely. As we get into summer, Coveyheugh is getting more beautiful by the day. Have a look on Airbnb and check out our availability!

This weekend wasn't quite so sunny, but last weekend we had a fantastic time at Whiteadder Watersports. Toby, Theo and I observed from the shore, while Michael, Rebekah and Nancy all had a go at kayaking, stand up paddleboarding and sailing. It was absolutely gorgeous there and a lovely day out, and only a half hour drive away!

Special shout out to Rebekah, who thought just standing up on her paddleboard was too easy. Show-off. πŸ™„πŸ˜‚πŸ˜˜

What a busy week! We have caught up with family and done a good bit of DIY, as well as bottle feeding our lambs. But we still found time to take a wee trip to East Links Family Park! We saw wallabies, deer, llamas, prairie dogs and many more animals. The wildest of the lot were definitely the niece and nephew though! They had a whale of a time on all the equipment, and all the grown ups had a great time on it too! πŸ˜‚

Lambing is well and truly underway, and this set of twins are being bottle fed. They follow us everywhere, and there is no escape! We love doing wacky races with the lambs, and they love it too. πŸ₯° If you're visiting, make sure to come and give them a cuddle! πŸ‘

Last week's post didn't go up for some reason, so here it is! Spring is a go go go, and we've all been spending more time outside enjoying it. And that includes the chickens! This little lady is super friendly and is very curious. We also have lambing news to follow, so expect a midweek post with photo updates! πŸ˜πŸ‘πŸ£

Well Happy Easter everyone from Coveyheugh! We popped down to the field to check on the girls this evening, and who did we find but these two strapping boys! Mum and babies doing well and definitely a lovely way to finish Easter Sunday. She didn't do a half "baaaaaa"d job! πŸ˜œπŸ‘

After a busy and fun weekend seeing friends and working around the house, we popped down the field to see our woolly ladies and it looks like they were happy to see us! We felt like the sheep whisperers with the way they followed us along the length of the field. They've been enjoying turnips in the build up to lambing, and it looks like they are ready for today's lot! πŸ˜…

The weather may have been dreich, but that didn't stop us from having a good day this Mother's Day! A train straight into Edinburgh and off to the St James Centre for a Duck and Waffle brunch. Definitely a firm recommendation!

Phew, that was a big job! πŸ˜…The old yew hedge has been in need of a serious haircut, and so last weekend, Michael got in about it, and gave it a new shape. It will need more trimming back as the years go on to try and reduce the depth of the hedge, but this is a good start. So please forgive the baldy patches for now, it's a work in progress!🌳

This week's Sunday post is a bit late, but oh well! The snowdrops are out in full force and the wild garlic is starting to make an appearance again. And we've made the most of the sunshine! It's been a busy weekend again, with clearing the orchard of tree prunings, rhododendron cutting, hedge trimming and some work down the field. So chickens are happy, sheep are happy, Lodge guests will be happy and we are happy too, if knackered! Time for some TV and a wee cuppa I think. Phew! πŸ˜…

After a busy weekend doing MUCH bathroom DIY, gardening and having sheep scanned, we felt a Sunday lunch treat was well deserved! So off to Limoncello we went. £9.95 for a 3-course Sunday lunch? Don't mind if we do! 😍 Definitely a recommendation if you're in the area!

Did you know, that in under an hour, you can get from Coveyheugh to being face to face with an actual Da Vinci? 😍 This is Madonna of the Yarnwinder, and she is free to see at the National Gallery in Edinburgh. We spent a wonderful day enjoying the sights of the Big Smoke a few weeks ago, and this was one of the highlights. See, we can be cultured too! 😜

Before the frost kicked in, we went on a planting spree and put in place some lovely Christmas trees! With my wrist, I was off the digging team, but Molly is more than happy to represent on behalf of the ladies! πŸ˜‚πŸΆ We are even toying with the idea of Christmas tree rental. It's a far more eco-friendly way of having a real tree without it having to be chopped down, as it comes to you in a pot. You can even have the same tree years in a row! Is that something any of you lovely people would be interested in?

Cast your mind back to Christmas Day... while everyone was waking up to normal presents from Santa, he went a bit outside the box for us! Must have bumped the sled into the tree on his way to the chimney... 😜 But never one to take a freebie for granted, Michael got out there with saws, secateurs and his trusty sidekick . Lo and behold, the latest addition to the woodshed!

After yet another hiatus last week (this time for Hogmanay in Fife!), it felt appropriate to share this photo from over Christmas break. We finally got around to bottling this past autumn's cider. From left to right, there is regular apple, blackcurrant, and orange. Sampling being a crucial stage of course! Big thanks to for all his invaluable help over the past few weeks. Poor lad will be exhausted after all the hard labour we had him doing!

Sorry about the hiatus, folks! After completion of the sheep shed, we went on our Transatlantic Caribbean cruise at the end of November. This was sadly cut short due to a broken left wrist. So if things are a little quieter on the Coveyheugh front for the next few weeks, that's why!

This photo might not look like much, but it represents a lot of hard work and planning! The sheep shed roof has been leaky since before we moved here, and has reputedly been there for decades. But the amazing Michael organised to go to Consett in County Durham to get second hand sheeting, and then over one and a half days, we re-roofed the whole thing! The inside is now considerably drier and a much better space for the chickens and the sheep to enjoy. So chuffed!

After a busy working week, it was straight onto the house jobs at the weekend! An early start on Saturday took us from Reston, to Duns, to County Durham, back up to Abbey St Bathans, and then back to Duns via Reston. Phew! πŸ₯΅ A chilled evening with the dogs in front of the fire, then a day's shift in the autumn sunshine, sheep-proofing the new orchard with lumber from the local sawmill. Who needs a gym when there's always a shift to be done here? πŸ’ͺ🏻

It's not quite Hallowe'en yet, but things have definitely been getting spookier at Coveyheugh! This creepy guy was found lurking among the pumpkins. Still, I suppose a husband is for life, not just for Hallowe'en, so I'd better keep him around!

After such grim weather this week, today has been glorious! We have made the most of it, spending the whole day outdoors, finishing off fencing, clearing away bits of old rubbish and generally just being busy. This was Michael and Molly taking the broken up apples from cider making down to the chickens and the sheep, who all loved it!

After some jam-packed weeks, it was nice to have a weekend at home for a change! A few neglected jobs were completed, and things are a little tidier, with the mind feeling a little more organised as a result. 😁 One of our resident artists, Mark, even threw together a new sign for the Lodge.🌳 What do you think? πŸ₯°

We're back! After a much needed wee holiday, we are back to continue our projects into autumn. Before we left however, one of our friendly ewes gave us a wee surprise. The ewe lamb is teeny tiny, but perfectly healthy. Hopefully this is the last wee surprise our girls have in store for us!! πŸ˜…

Bet you didn't see this coming, did you? 😜 In the summer following our moving in, we found an old vine around the old boiler house. Since then, the old thing hasn't managed to produce any grapes. But this year... 🀩 Wine glasses at the ready, troops!
