Update from Forestry England re Car Park Closures - the most notable are the two at Longslade for works to be carried out on the footbridges:

Ober Corner car park and Whitley Wood near Lyndhurst are both closed to protect wildlife during the autumn season.
Anderwood, Clay Hill, near Burley, the Reptile Centre, Standing Hat and Osmond's Bushes car parks are all currently closed.
Longslade Bottom and Longslade View car parks will be closed from 27 November, for 2 months. Alternative nearby car parks include Setthorns, Horseshoe Bottom, Longslade Heath and Wilverley Inclosure.
This closure is to allow for major works to replace a pair of derelict bridges over the old railway track at Longslade that forms part of a popular walking, cycling and horse-riding trail in the New Forest.

🍄 It's 🍂 🍄

Autumn is peak time for a wide variety of fabulous fungi in the National Park. If you're out and about, please look but don't touch and leave the fungi for the wildlife and others to enjoy.

The New Forest is one of the most important sites for in Britain, and there are more than 2,700 species of fungi in the National Park alone. They’re essential to the Forest’s ecosystem, which is why the New Forest National Park Authority, together with partners such as Forestry England are appealing to people to look, but please don’t pick.

From Hardley Fire station... the view from inside their fire truck.

This is the scene that greeted us when we were called to a fire in the New Forest (Fawley Enclosure) earlier today.

These access gates must be kept clear at all times, they provide essential access for our Firefighters and other emergency services to get within the enclosures.

WE ARE AT HIGH FIRE RISK - please don't block gates, you never know when access is needed and fire travels fast!

Look out for the New Forest’s ground nesting birds this spring

Forestry England are urging people to stay vigilant for ground nesting birds this breeding season.

The New Forest is one of the few places in the UK where rare ground nesting birds, such as the lapwing, nightjar and curlew come to breed. Unlike most birds, ground nesting birds build nests on the forest floor rather than in a tree or bush.

During the March to July breeding season, we can help the birds survive and thrive by taking a few extra precautions when visiting areas of the forest where ground nesting birds may be living:

stick to the main paths
don’t walk over open, heathland areas
keep dogs close to you, and where necessary use a lead
Signs are in key nesting areas and provide guidance about what to do:

orange signs signal that you’re near to a breeding area and remind you to look out
red signs show that you’re within the immediate vicinity of ground nesting birds and ask you to avoid the area
You can find out more about ground nesting birds at https://www.forestryengland.uk/ground-nesting-birds

Some car parks near to nesting areas will be closed over the next few months. To see which car parks are closed, visit https://www.forestryengland.uk/article/new-forest-car-park-closures

Groups from across the local community are supporting efforts to help ensure the survival of rare ground nesting birds in the New Forest during this spring and summer. With growing public awareness of the plight of these vulnerable birds it is hoped that many more people using the Forest will help t...

The Met Office has issued warnings for extremely strong winds in the South of England on Friday 18 February, with gusts of 80-100mph likely in the next few days.

Please stay away from the coast.

Please stay away from the coast.

🔴🔴⚠️⚠️ The Met Office has issued rare Red Weather Warnings for much of the south coast as Storm Eunice is expected to bring extremely strong winds and continued disruption on Friday.
🔴🔴⚠️⚠️

Wind gusts in the most exposed coastal areas could be in excess of 90mph, which would bring significant impacts for many and represent a danger to life.

We’re asking people to stay well back from stormy seas and call 999 and ask for the Coastguard if you or someone else is in trouble. 📷sportography
