Have you heard of the annual pannage? 🐷
The New Forest pigs are released onto the forest to eat fallen acorns, beechmast, chestnuts and other nuts; green acorns are poisonous to the New Forest ponies and cattle which roam the forest the majority of the year. This year's pannage started on 16th September until 22nd November. https://www.thenewforest.co.uk/explore/wildlife-and-nature/pigs/

During the autumn months, it's not an uncommon sight to see pigs roaming the forest floor. The reason for this is one of pannage!

September is a beautiful month to visit the New Forest. 🌳 Autumn walks watching the colours changing from vibrant greens to golden oranges. You may even see some of the New Forest’s pigs snuffling on the forest floor in search of fallen acorns – part of pannage season. 🐷
