The Lodge at Myrtleberry

The Lodge at Myrtleberry The Lodge at Myrtleberry is a holiday cottage for up to 6 people in three bedrooms.

This FB page is to give a taster, or let you know what's going on around here. We would also very much welcome posts and pictures on our wall from any of our visitors! They say "Location location location", we think we have it - as long as you like healthy rivers, oak woodlands, dramatic coastlines, wildlife, and country pubs to name a few. The Lodge at Myrtleberry is a dog friendly 3-bedroomed holiday let set in splendid isolation right on the bank of the beautiful East Lyn river.

I've hardly seen any salmon in the river this year, so sad to see that there are still fish getting infected with what we suspect is UDN – Ulcerative Dermal Necrosis disease.

Does anyone know anything about "star jelly fungus"? I always thought that it was something to do with frogspawn but this has just appeared on the way down Chiselcombe which can't be anything to do with frogspawn at this time of year. If you Google it, it's been thought to have come from meteors, reported back as far as the 14th century! Tonight is the Draconid meteor shower .... so could it be true??

Another sign of autumn is cider making! Mill the apples in to pulp, leave them for 20 mins or so for the tanins to take affect to give the cider colour & flavour, press them in to apple juice, stick them in a barrel in the garage until Easter for all the sugars to turn to alcohol & then enjoy!!

Every sunny day I head up Arnold's Lynhay to look for Purple Hairstreak butterflies. I managed to photograph one way up in the top of the Oaks but hoping for a shot from above to show their beautiful purple upper-wings.
Other pics are a Silver-washed Fritillary, a Gatekeeper & Bell Heather.
