Today is , a perfect occasion to celebrate the rare biodiversity on the Fylde Sand Dunes! 💛💙

Sand dunes habitat is very reduced in the UK and hosts many species that are now nationally rare❗️Plants that grow here, sandwiched in between dry sand and salty water, have special adaptations developed through millennia of evolution 🌾

The dune slacks in the Local Nature Reserve boast their own rare species like the yellow bird's nest or several beautiful orchids e.g. green-flowered helleborine, round-leaved wintergreen 🌸

But when we talk about on our sand dunes, the first thing that usually comes to mind is the gorgeous 𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐫𝐝 🦎 which was reintroduced and is now being monitored regularly to make sure the population thrives in the future!

An ecosystem is like a web of connections 🕸 The more elements, the more connections between them, the more resilient our ecosystem becomes 💪

This is why rare species matter and we work hard to preserve them - to make sure the Fylde Sand Dunes are strong and resilient for the future! 🙌

𝐉𝐎𝐈𝐍 𝐔𝐒 this Sunday at 10am for our monthly 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐤 on the Fylde Sand Dunes! 💛💙

We think the dunes are beautiful in every season but in late spring they truly come to life, with insects a-buzzing 🦋🐝 birds returning to our shores 🐦 lizards getting active in the grasses 🦎 and many more wonderful wildlife sightings!

Our dedicated volunteers are eager to show you all of this and more 🔎 while explaining why the sand dunes restoration project is so important for both wildlife as well as us, the people living in coastal communities 😊

We're a friendly bunch so this is also a great opportunity to get to know each other! This is a completely free event, you just need to book your place here 👉

Where is 'North Beach' St Annes on Sea?

There are two good reasons to find this out. Firstly, it's where you will find exciting windsports to watch, and the Windsports Centre and Beachcomber Cafe.
Secondly, the countdown is on until Good Friday, when the dog restrictions are enforced. However, North Beach is dog-friendly ALL year.
Looking at this great photo by Stephen Cheatley Photography it starts to the left of the popular main beach car park. Then, North Beach stretches all the way to Starr Gate and Blackpool!

It's big, beautiful and bordered by our ecologically rich sand dunes.
