I had my Town Centre Manager hat on yesterday and spent a lovely hour wandering around town, talking to shop keepers, looking at the new businesses preparing to open up, and watching people sitting inside cafe's as well as taking advantage of the pavement licences offered by Cheshire East in a bid to generate more interest in outdoor hospitality and encourage people back to the high street.
There were two key things to takeaway from my travels.
1) Some people will stoop very very low. MacclesFog - Electronic ci******es who had one of our fantastic hand sanitiser stations have had the bottle of sanitiser pinched!! These were designed and given out to help the people of the town feel safe and comfortable when getting back out on to the high street. If this continues to happen, people will start taking their sanitiser stands inside their shops and then the opportunity for passersby to clean their hands has been lost.
2) The other thing is more positive. I took a trip into the Indoor Market yesterday and had a lovely chat with Julie at Pets Corner, and Rob at Mary Joy Craft Outlet. Did you know that Rob and his little team can do minor alterations on clothing items, can knit a baby cardigan in any colour or size you need, and can order in pretty much any type of wool, ribbon or haberdashery item you might require for your next project? PLUS they have a great range of Pride ribbons and flags just perfect for Macclesfield Pride Out & About.
Don't forget to check out Macclesfield Indoor market next time you are passing. There are some hidden gems just waiting to be explored.
