Diolch yn fawr iawn y Dafydd Davis.

Thank you to Dafydd Davis, the founding father of Coed y Brenin and the global Trail Centre model, for joining and .project.cic to explain the importance of in trail design and management, and introduce the need for long term strategy for global destinations to exist in harmony with communities and the environment.

Every week in Dyfi, a small group of riders aged 15 to 55+ ride together. We ride a lot of national-level enduro trails, because that’s what we have a lot of around here.

Recently, I met a chap who used to ride with us, in the pub. He said he had sold his bike.

I asked why? He replied “I kept crashing, and breaking myself, meaning I had to stop triathlon training.”

“It’s a shame. I loved the atmosphere. If there were more easier trails, I would have kept the bike!”

That’s a quote from a former Paratrooper who can run a sub 45m 10k.

More easier trails, ideally with opportunities to progress, as essential to broaden the appeal of our sport to other athletes, as well as newcomers.

Great viewing from Sandi Toksvig’s on

Having bought some woodland, the series shows how Sandi has to come to terms with the massive responsibility that comes with the deeds, and the tough decisions she has to make.

If you want to better understand a land manager’s challenges, it’s a great watch.

Rolling in style!
Very please with how the is doing what I built it for. The Rocket fits a treat.

About another 2 years to get it “right”, but it’s usable and fun, so I’m happy.

Love seeing people’s reactions to it, especially older farmers who like to stop and chat.

Protective rubber stable-matting fitted to load bed.

Boy is this stuff heavy and awkward!

Has deadened road noise from the rear, but still sounds like we have a bearing gone somewhere, despite no play or heat build up. Puzzled on this one!

Cruising speed coming up with each drive. Seems happy at 50 now. Maybe there’s truth in the old tale “you’ve got to drive a classic to keep it going”?

After a few weeks on the road it was great to get back on some local trails with local people.

We all know “bib trousers” are the current trend in MTB apparel, but Dyfi riders have been rocking this style for years.

Available from all good farmers’ coops, these stylish and rugged trousers are great for sending the gnar, checking the ewes and mucking out the cattle. (Liberal use of advised for new wearers, as they can chaff a bit!).

Getting a little worried about training for the .cyb , but the legs seem to be responding to the “little and often” way of easing back into it.

Love where being on foot can take me. Trails with history are always my favourite.

Never has going in circles been so expiating, scary and fun! Managed to get half way up the stickers and tag onto a few chaingangs and efforts.

Now how to we make MTB something you can walk off the street and try…?

Another late evening with fellow directors of , planning a year of activities to empower the local community to help take care of their trails.

A decade as a Trail Association director has shown me the highs and lows that come with Rider Managed Trails:

From the joy of bring community together to work in the woods, to the despair of having all communication (and work) cease due to changes within the land management body - I’ve had the full experience. And all the emotions.

What makes it worthwhile? Seeing local towns and villages buzzing with bikes - not just in season, but around the year with local riders of all ages.

This is what drives me in the

Almost 85% of the UK’s population live in urban areas. And they deserve the benefits of mountain biking, ideally from their doors.

To learn more about urban MTB facilities I visited several sites in Manchester, including ‘s scheme at

These trails have strong and we had many positive discussions exploring how allow riders to shape and maintain these provisions can build stronger communities and better facilities.

Right, listen up followers! Mountain biking needs your help!

More specifically - the kids need your help!

If you know a kid whose bike needs some attention, and you’ve got the tools, skills and time, please offer your help!

If a kids bike won’t work, it won’t be FUN and it won’t get used. Then it will end up at the back of the garage, forgotten about and out grown.

For the want of a £10 part, a kid can stop riding. Possibly for life!

If you can change a cable, align gears or bleed brakes, please think about offering those skills to friends, family and neighbours.

Thanks

Oh Scotland, you have spoilt me again.
Mega week north of the border, packed with meetings, Parliamentary Reception and adding findings from the to the Scottish MTB Consortium.

Between all this we even managed to ride some big hills, and see how work on the is holding up to winter.

Full blog post in the challenge coming soon, so like and follow there for more regular project updates throughout the year.

Stoked to be back in stunning Scotland and refuelling at the legendary

This truck stop was a favourite in my days as a field engineer in Scotland, offering hearty fried food and bottomless mugs of tea to warm the fingers.

It’s now refurbished in a modern American diner style, but the food and service is as good as ever.

- this is what a major North-South route should look like. Scrap your “no more roads” nonsense and get the A470 dualled. (And A483,A487 and possibly some of those funny east-west roads that cross the border!)
