A bus right past our door. The new EYMS Wolds Explorer (200) runs between Thixendale and Pocklington at weekends and bank holidays during the summer season (March to September).

A way to visit our village over the bank holiday and during the summer months.

This Bank Holiday weekend is a great opportunity to try the new Wolds Explorer Bus Service, running on Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday.
This great service will allow you to walk lovely linear sections of the Yorkshire Wolds Way between Millington and Huggate and between Huggate and Thixendale.

We've been really busy making improvements at Stable Barn Holiday Cottages. Not least moving over 20 tonnes of soil!

Some photos of our new flower boarders. Aching bodies now but we think the final look is much better than the old drive aggregate.

For now we've just put in a range of plants to add a splash of colour. We'll come up with a proper scheme over the next few years . . . any advice on planting for an exposed hill top with lots of hares, pheasants and their mammal/bird friends gratefully received.

Not happy that we were forced to cut down two of our lovely Ash trees due to dieback. It's changed the look of our tree line at Stable Barn Holiday Cottages

On the plus side we've got a massive pile of wood chippings!

Breaking News - we've been working hard on adding a second bedroom to Honey Dale cottage. It was always a bedroom really, but we'd been using it for storage.

The good news is that it's ready! Honey Dale cottage can now sleep up to 4 guests in 2 bedrooms - 1 kingsize bed and 2 single beds.

Whay Dale doesn't have a second bedroom so will always be our cosy cottage for couples wanting a hideaway in the stunning Yorkshire Wolds countryside.

When we set up the holiday cottages here at Stable Barn we wanted to offer a friendly, flexible and personal experience for our guests so we didn't sign up to any of the big booking agencies.

Lynn and Kris live on site at the other side of Stable Barn's 1850's building and are on hand to make sure your stay is as pleasant as possible.

Once our 4 children reached "fly the nest" age we decided to make our own "escape to the country" here in the stunning Yorkshire Wolds.

Lynn being an ex-nurse is a professional when it comes to folding bed sheet corners. Not to mention her old style clinical cleaning standards. Kris was an R&D engineer so has all things maintenance and technical covered. We're quite a traditional team.

It's been 3 winters since we moved and there's not a moment we regret choosing to come here. You're welcome to book a stay in one of our cottages and share this often forgotten, beautiful part of Yorkshire with us.

More improvements here at Stable Barn. Our new driveway, drainage and parking area.

The old surface didn't drain very well. All the water ran down to our front door. It was pretty poor in ice too; unless you like ice skating!

The team battled through 2 named storms, snow and ice but won in the end. We hope you like the new look.

Still plenty for us to do as we've created new boarders and retaining walls which will need a lot of soil and planting.

Spent a couple of days planting 250 bulbs last autumn. They're just beginning to poke through now.

Hopefully the bluebells will start flowering soon. We seem to be a little behind the local villages here on top of the hill at Stable Barn.

Looks so much better than the ivy and is a lovely spot in the trees for our holiday cottage guests to spend some time enjoying.

Our new fairer fixed prices for 2024 with longer stay discounts.

When we first opened our cottages to visitors we were advised to charge different seasonal prices based on demand; but we feel that's unfair. We’ve found it actually costs us more to host guests in winter than summer, so we've decided it's fairer to charge the same fixed price all year.

Because our costs are slightly lower the longer you stay we’re also offering discounts for longer bookings.

1 week or more - 5% off;
2 weeks or more - 10% off;
3 weeks or more - 30% off.

Our website hasn't quite caught up with the discounts yet so for now we'll add these when we confirm your holiday stay.
