In equipping The Old Forge Holiday Cottage we have chosen high quality furnishings and fixtures and we have tried to provide everything you will need to have a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. If there is something we haven’t considered please let us know! The Old Forge Holiday cottage has been awarded a Four Star Rating from Visit Britain. Situated in The Great Wold Valley alongside The Gypsey Race and overlooking an area of outstanding natural beauty, the cottage is ideally situated as a base for visiting the Yorkshire Wolds, The Yorkshire Coast, the North Yorkshire Moors and the City of York all of which are within 30 miles. West Lutton is a picturesque village situated between the bustling market towns of Malton and Driffield. The views from The Old Forge of St Mary’s Church are second to none and The Three Tuns Inn is just 2 minutes walk away. Just a couple of miles away in Weaverthorpe both The Blue Bell and The Star Inn offer excellent dining, as does The Triton Inn at Sledmere. Still Yorkshires best kept secret The Yorkshire Wolds are a range of low rolling hills which rise from the River Humber at Hessle and run in a crescent shape through stunning countryside to the dramatic cliffs at Flamborough Head and Bempton north of Bridlington. The gentle hills make it an ideal area for both walking and cycling. The area is unspoilt and rich in history and there are many historic buildings and churches to visit. The chalk grassland of The Yorkshire Wolds is a rare habitat in Britain and is haven for wildlife. The Yorkshire Coast towns of Bridlington, Filey, & Scarborough are all less than 20 miles away, each offering different experiences for those of you who enjoy a day out at the Seaside. Do not miss a day out in the maritime town of Whitby the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula and now home to the annual Gothic Weekend.

Another vote for the lemon drizzle cake! Pity it wasn't one of the categories in the recent village Bake Off, I quite fancy one of those aprons. Maybe next year!
'We can't believe it's 12 years since we were last here! the cottage, and the setting is as lovely as ever. Loved opening the door and hearing the birds and the wind in the trees. Highly recommended a stroll through Tony Cragg sculptures at Castle howard, and the Monet in York Exhibition. We'll be back again as soon as we can - it definitely WON'T be another 12 years.

'We have all had a very good Christmas here. All 8 of us were cosy & comfortable. Thank you for the festive welcome pack, much appreciated. Our guests this weekend have enjoyed Christmas at Castle Howard and snowman building in front of The Old Forge, Yorkshire Wolds !

We have had a great weekend enhanced by the snow which made the village even prettier. Thank you to Nigel for providing coal for the snow peoples eyes and Caroline for the carrot noses!
The cottage is fabulous from the welcome hamper to the Christmas tree! We will be back December 2024!'

Another massive thumbs up for 'Caroline's World Famous Lemon Drizzle Cake' from this weeks guests!
'We've had a fantastic stay in your wonderful cottage. Thank you for making us so welcome - comfy beds, lovely bedding, very well equipped kitchen - everything was perfect, including the Welcome Pack which contained the best lemon drizzle cake ever!

Muriel & her family have been celebrating a BIG Birthday this weekend!
'We have had a lovely three generations, family stay at The Old Forge, celebrating my 80th Birthday. Everything we needed for an excellent stay was at hand and we appreciated the high quality of furnishings, equipment & presentation. This weeks guests are heading home after striking lucky with the weather after weeks of rain here in Yorkshire. The farmers are also happy as they can finally get the harvest in.
'Thank you for a wonderful week in The Old Forge. It really is a lovely cottage and had everything we needed. Very comfortable and luxurious and a great welcome pack, especially the lemon cake! The Wold Rangers Walking Festival kicked off at the weekend but don't worry if you missed out as the festival runs until 24 June. With 18 different walks to choose from there's something for all abilities, from super easy strolls to challenging hikes.

A fabulous long weekend at The Old Forge. A very comfortable home-from-home and so quiet. Listening to the birdsong in the morning was a joy. We would highly recommend a visit to RSPB Bempton Cliffs, great wheelchair access. So many photos to go through - will need another weekend just to edit them all! If you are looking for a place to eat we would recommend The Triton Inn (book a table before going) and The Coach & Horses at Rillington. Thank You. Paul, Barbara & Robert King

Only last month, we had snow on The Wolds. Now spring is on it's way and we are looking forward to the summer months.
'An amazing place to stay. The Old Forge is comfort & luxurious, very high standard. Warm, cosy and felt like home. A real Tardis was stunned how big the bedrooms are. The snow was unexpected, but made a picturesque village even prettier. Plenty of room to manoeuvre the wheelchair. Will be highly recommending a stay here for friends & family. Welcome pack was an added bonus and enjoyed the tasty lemon drizzle. Will definitely be book a longer stay. Thank you Caroline & Nigel for making our break the best and for being so welcoming. We had some guests staying a couple of weeks ago & they have just left us a glowing review with the agency they booked through. Hopefully when they return they will with us and get a better deal. Here's their review along with a photo of the view from the cottage.
'A real luxury to stay at this very high quality cottage. Beautiful from the outside and wow a real tardis from the inside. Clean, well furnished; the bedrooms were spacious and of high quality. We felt that we belong straight from the start of our break. Lovely walks, great base for exploring and adventures to be found in Yorkshire. Lots of information and ideas for your stay. The welcome basket was a nice touch, local coffee and tea, fresh eggs and homemade Lemon Drizzle cake as well, a real treat after a long journey. Would highly recommend the Old Forge to anyone looking for peace and quiet and luxury. The biggest bonus was that it was wheelchair friendly and easy to manouver around, and plenty of room for transferring from the chair. Best holiday we have had for a very long time!'

It does seem a while since our Christmas guests were here, and we actually left before they did to enjoy some Winter Sun in Madeira! However, here is what they had to say about their Christmas getaway.
'We all had a fabulous time for our Christmas stay. We visited Filey, Scarborough and Malton calling in at Castle Howard on our way home. The Old Forge is beautiful, we were pleasantly surprised, couldn't have wished for anything better. All of the rooms were nicely furnished and equipped making for a really cosy stay. Great touch having all the information to hand. PS Twas my husband who ate all the mince pies, not Santa! Thank you for all the lovely food gifts! We really appreciated them. We are really looking forward to our next visit to The Old Forge! Thank You again The Townsends'
Since arriving home in early January, we have had the decorators in giving the Old Forge a complete refresh for 2023. Tomorrow we start the big clean up getting things back to normal and ready for our guests!
