Earlier this year the Phoenix Players used the Dell House to film scenes for the trailers for their performance of the Haunting of Hill House. (No, that's not us in the opening shot...)

We're looking forward to seeing the play tonight.

A busy weekend, as expected for the Autumn Show.

We have a range of guests here - regulars and newcomers to enjoy the show (and fill their cars with purchases...), traders, and an exhibitor. Our guests in the Butlers are representing their region in the floral art show, and were delighted to get Highly Commended.

We are accommodating W Robinson & sons LTD and they were delighted to get the Best in Marquee award. Neal's Yard Dairy won first prize for their stall, and Mud Foods seem to have won plenty of awards for their pies!

Apparently last week (2nd-6th Sept) was Zero Waste Week. No, we'd not heard of it either and we only noticed it a couple of days ago so this is definitely not a planned post. However, minimising waste is something that's important to us.

This is our landfill output for the last *fortnight* which was collected today. It's a pretty typical fortnight representing 100 people-days (2x 14 days for us and 72 guest-nights) including a birthday party / murder mystery weekend and some DIY works.

Recyclables are separated out and go in the two recycling bins. Food waste is composted on site (not that we create much) and recyclable-marked bags and film (crisp packets, etc.) is collected by Waitrose when they deliver.

It's not difficult.

10 years ago today we moved into the Dell House and into a whole new career in hospitality!

It's been an amazing decade and about as far away from '9 to 5' as you can get. We've met some amazing people (and a very small number of t***s), learnt new skills, restored the house and transformed the garden.

Originally this was to be a 'ten year plan' but it's too rewarding to give up yet. Maybe we'll actually retire in another five years?

Thanks to everyone who has been part of our journey: guests, gamers, fellow B&B owners, multiple tradesmen, mystery murderers, and locals and historians who have revealed the fascinating history of the house.

In typical Dell House fashion, we've spent this special day showing visitors around the garden for charity, fixing plumbing, paying the VAT bill, and taking bookings for September 2025!

We've had a great weekend with the car park filled with a range of classic cars here for the TR Register Inter-Club International Weekend (as well as guests for the Upton Jazz Festival - it's been busy!).

Go well everyone and we look forward to your return in a couple of years.

Yes, we have our first booking for 2026!

Death on Demand have filmed a short, online, interactive Murder Mystery here and it's now live at https://deathondemand.co.uk/veil-of-deceit/

If that tickles your inner Holmes, there are still a few places at our final public Murder Mystery of 2024 in September.

Yet again, death stalks the Dell House.

Yes, it's another of our popular Weekend Murder Mysteries run by Death on Demand. This time the guests are a group of university friends some of whom haven't met up for decades.

The plot was "The Sting in the Tale" - a weekend murder mystery set in a fictional "fund-raising weekend" that itself contained a Steampunk Murder Mystery as part of the entertainment - which is why some of the photos are Victorian and some modern day.

It provided the perfect setting for a reunion, with everyone working together to find and decipher the clues, question the suspects and solve the crimes.

Would you like to set a small reunion around a such an event? Do get in touch.

Meanwhile, although we have another five weekend murder mysteries in the diary, only one, in September, has bookable spaces - see the website for details.

Now, about those bloodstains in the carpet... again...

We've some Wednesday afternoon & evening Open Garden sessions this year - trying something different from the usual weekend openings. The weather was kind and we had a good number of appreciative visitors, raising around £300 for the National Garden Scheme charities. This brings our total this year to over £1,000 so far.

Last year the NGS donated over £3.4 million to nursing and healthcare charities

Our next open garden is Wednesday 3rd July, 2 - 8 pm.

The Dell is now a lake!

Not in our garden anymore, this is the wooded hollow which gave our house it's name. Originally known as The Dell, it became the Dell House when land including the dell was sold off - it's now in the garden of a house in the Oaklands. Apparently it was an ornamental lake when the house was known as the Dell Hydro in the 1930s / 40s. It was around this time that nudists were seen here.

This is only the second time that the lake has been as big since the current owner moved there in 1986. The second photo is from this time last year.

We're delighted to get first prize in the Grow to Show section of the Malvern Spring Festival. Our azaleas look amazing, both in the 'container of cut flowering shrub' class and in the garden.

Don't forget our garden is open for charity at any time 'by arrangement' through the NGS as well as on our open days. Just drop us an email if you'd like to visit the garden. No minimum number, and we'd still offer tea and cake!
