A Week in Borovets: My Top Picks for Accommodation, Skiing & Food ❄️🎿💜
If you're thinking about heading to Borovets for a ski trip, I can wholeheartedly say—go for it! We had an incredible week filled with great skiing, delicious food, and some of the friendliest people you could hope to meet. Whether you're looking for budget-friendly yet comfortable accommodation, top-notch ski hire, or the best places to eat and drink, here are my personal recommendations from our stay.
Where We Stayed: Borovets Gardens:
We booked an apartment at Borovets Gardens, and for the price, it was an absolute gem. The apartment itself was beautiful, warm, clean, and well-equipped, with a lovely balcony and fantastic shower pressure (which is always a bonus after a long day on the slopes!).
While it’s a short uphill walk into the resort, if you’re fit and healthy, it’s totally manageable. In fact, we often took the woodland path, which made for a pretty and peaceful way to start and end the day. If you’re looking for affordable accommodation with great facilities, this is definitely worth considering!
Other place I have stayed and would recommend for different reasons would be; Flora, Forest Star, Samokov Hotel, Moura, Ela, Radina’s Way, Hotel Lion & Avalanche.
Ski Hire & Lessons: Hunters
For ski hire, we went with Hunters, and I can’t recommend them enough. The team is friendly, professional, and super helpful, making the whole process easy from start to finish. The equipment was great quality, and their instructors? Absolutely brilliant.
The girls had lessons & we skied with Yuri, Neil, Agni, Ned, and Phil, who were all fantastic, and if you’re skiing with little ones, Dani is amazing with kids. Whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your technique, this is the place to go!
Après-Ski & Food: Where to Eat & Drink in Borovets
Cool Runnings
If you’re looking for good vibes, great food, and a buzzing après-ski atmosphere, Cool Runnings is the place to be. While the food is always delicious (the pulled pork burger, chicken bites, and fries were delicious - this is all I tried during our stay but their whole menu won’t disappoint!), great house music, a nice mix of classic reggae, all time favourites, d&b & party nights! Towards the end of our trip, they really stepped up their outdoor après including… Back-to-back DJs, lights, beer pong, and even two fire shows —this place knows how to cater to all ages and keep the energy high! Oh, and did I mention they sell the best cider ever? Cherry cider! A must-try.
The Green King – Peter & Eva’s Place
A true home-away-from-home experience! Peter and Eva are so warm and welcoming, making you feel like family the moment you walk in. Their homemade garlic bread with cheese and sautéed potatoes are next-level, all their meals are made with love and they also serve the infamous cherry cider (double win!).
Peter even helps me practice my Bulgarian, which was a fun challenge! If you want delicious homemade food and incredible hospitality, make sure to stop by.
Sangria – Gery’s Place
For the best breakfast in Borovets, head to Sangria and let Gery take care of you. Her halloumi on toast and cornflake chicken are personal favourites and from past experiences Gery’s team make an amazing lasagna, and the café has a lovely warm and cozy atmosphere.
The location is also a winner—it’s right by the sledging slope and black ski slope, meaning you can enjoy great food with great views. The space has recently been renovated and extended, making it even better.
The Pines – Lyubo’s Place
Tucked away at the bottom of the black slope, The Pines is an absolute hidden gem. If you love homemade food and traditional Bulgarian hospitality, this is the place for you.
Lyubo’s homemade bread, chips, and pork in garlic were some of the best dishes we had all week. But the highlight? His rakija—served warm with honey! If that’s not your thing, I also highly recommend the red wine with amaretto. Plus, families eating or drinking here can use the sledges for free—such a lovely touch!
Katina’s
Every time we visit Borovets, we never miss a trip to Katina’s—and for good reason! They serve the tastiest pizzas in the resort, with homemade fries that are unreal. But the real mystery? The dip that comes with them! No one quite knows what’s in it, but trust me—it’s absolutely delicious. If you’re craving a proper pizza after a long day on the slopes, Katina’s is the place to go.
The Silver Fox
For a lunch spot with entertainment (aka watching skiers attempt the slope), The Silver Fox on the Rotata slope is perfect. We were lucky with the weather, so we grabbed a top balcony seating, soaked up the sunshine, enjoyed a cider, and watched the action unfold. Simple but brilliant.
Plus, an absolute must visit when open is George’s bar! Just down the Royal Residence ski way! His home made food & hot wine is to die for!!!! With such an aesthetic vibe! Don’t forget to try his homemade sausages BBQ’d with onions, toast & lutenitsa!
